Buy this, and a MT to R8 adapter from any place:
2 Mini Lathe Chuck - Harbor Freight Tools
God no, don't do that. That chuck is garbage. And a morse taper in an R8 adaptor in a mill's spindle? Bear in mind, that taper is probably not tapped for a drawbar. It'll fall out the first time you put any sideways forces on it.
There is a 4" chuck on an R8 taper that shows up on ebay occasionally. I'm on the lookout for one, but can't find any at the moment. If I find a source, I'll let you know.

I'm not that big on the idea of an adapter to an adapter to the chuck either...but it MIGHT work ok.
There are R8 3 jaws out there in both 3" and 4"...
Shars used to have these - I attached the catalog page.
However, when I searched the shars site the catalog part numbers no longer show up.
I think the guy on eBay was 800 Watt...but that's just from memory. I haven't seen any on there lately either. I'm also looking...
Good luck,

I read a thread on practical machinist that strongly suggested to stay away from the 800watt chuck. I am looking at the bison and the JTS one. Does anyone think one is better than the other? It be nice to save some money but I don't want junk.
You could get a plain back chuck and a R8 shellmill arbor and make a backplate to fit.

I cant find that thread again. I do recall the poster saying stay away from the one from 800watt. My guess the problem is both, but who knows, it could have been one bad item and one unhappy customer. Was that because of the quality of the chuck?
Or lack of communication from seller?
I'm starting to consider just buying a mini lathe now.
