g0704 CNC conversion and Mcmaster to Canada

I've started ordering the parts I need for the Hoss CNC conversion. I remember when I was building my cnc router back in 2009 that Mcmaster would not ship to new customers in Canada. I phoned them today and they said that they ship to Canada to new customers. I even phoned back and talked to someone else to confirm. I asked them when that policy changed and the 2 people I talked to really didn't know. It was like they always shipped to Canada. I seem to remember a scenario similar to this last time. They would take the order then contact you and say sorry we can't ship it. Anyone from Canada order anything from them recently?
    thanks,
    Brendin

    Brendin,

I had a similar exchange with them a couple of months ago. I went ahead and ordered on-line and the order was accepted. 24hrs later I got an e-mail saying that they were unable to ship the order to me as I was a new customer in Canada.

    Cheers,

    Adrian

Thanks Adrian. What I really don't get is how the sales people don't know this. I even told them the same thing I had heard in the past about then not accepting new customers and both the sales people said no that they shipped to Canada and new customer would not be a problem.

I had to ship a box of parts to Ontario a few months ago. It took me 15 minutes to pull the parts and pack them, then 4 hours filling out documents.

The majority of that time was spent online looking up codes in the database for each individual item. The second time I did it I had the paperwork down to two hours.

I'm sure people like McMaster has many of these codes already assigned in their product data but who knows. If they have to fill all that out I can see how it's not productive nor profitable.

I have never bothered with McMaster, between Reid Supply and Misumi, I can get just about all I need.
Misumi also ship to Canada brokerage paid.

The reason my boss orders from McMaster (he's a longtime customer in Canada) is the overnight shipping. Order before 4 or 5 pm and get it delivered next day. Very important for a small machine shop trying to get work out the door...

Since they already send stuff to customers in Canada, I don't understand why they won't take on new customers - the work shouldn't be any more than they already do... ???
