    5v to 12v control

My friend has a denford orac and i seam to have been roped in to sort it out as it was a proper ebay job. just get it work for the demo and then it falls over.

The original drives still work and i have got it working under mach and has machined a number of parts.

the issue is that the direct pin on the x axis keeps failing.

the drive works on a 12v signal not 5v so the cowboy rigid up a bread broad with transistors on to provide the signal. well this one keeps popping. any one can suggest a robust circuit that i can build to get this working.

If I read it right, you want to transition from a 5v signal to a 12v command signal, it should be quite simple using a 2n7000 Fet, which was designed to transition from TTL to up to 60vdc, in all likely hood it will not require a pull up resistor?
If you have details of the 12v input, more can be offered.

Well it is tricky to offer advice based on guesswork, but here is some info on the 2n7000 that may help.

The CD4504B-EP voltage level shifter would be worth looking at as well.
