If it's BT30 or ISO30, the fat part of the taper will be the same size as the taper on an R8.

Yeah, the "spigot" on the end makes it NMTB. BT, CAT and ISO don't have the spigot. The large diameter will tell you whether it's 30 (1.25"), or 40 (1.75").

nmtb40 or nt40. basically the manual thread in drawbar equivelant of bt/cat40.

it is good if you have a machine for it, and its fairly easy to get and relatively cheap. its generally too large for hobby class machines though.

CAT 40, ISO 40 and NMTB 40 are all quite available (ISA and CAT are VERY common on modern VMCs), and reasonably interchangeable as well. You can use CAT40 and ISO 40 in an NMTB spindle - may require a longer drawbar. But the tapers are the same. The other difference is in the locating lugs (The two cutouts in the sides of the flange which may require a little finagling to interchange.

    Ray L.

NMTB uses a typical screw in drawbar that threads into the shank but the taper
is the same size as other tapers and would let you use them with pullstuds and the
    appropriate drawbar.
NMTB's aren't near as common or available as the BT's anymore, but there are some sources.
