    Question Name that fitting...

I am guessing that these fittings are for Way Oil or manufacture recommended equivalent. What is the proper name for these fittings and what is the proper tool to use on them? I am a Refrigeration Mechanic and come across all kinds of odd and obscure items. But this one got me. I even went to a bearing and transmission shop I use for parts today and they have never seen them either. I dont want to run the machine very long without knowing what and how to service it... and yes I looked in the manual but nothing...(nothing in the manual for the rotary table either...

    thanks.

I have an trigger pump oil can that has a nozzle that fits over the ball, the oil pressure pushes the ball down.
It is not the best system, but you may have to modify a nozzle to get it to work.

I call them "oilers." I think they suck. But I guess if there's not much room, there's not much choice. An oil cup or pressure oiler works better for me.

    From Alemite Flush Type Fittings:

Little buggers... if I can't press the ball down or see oil seeping out is it broken? How is it removed? I bet the steel ball doesn't like being drilled. I'd like to replace mine with zerts that seal tight, have some tactle feedback like gurgling or the oiler handle collapsing.

I found a syringe and use that as an oiler (Have a few from a friend that had Diabetes). That way I can see how much oil I am putting in. Its a bit big for the small one but I should be able to find a way to modify a tip.

Agreed, over time the spring inside will break or the ball gets chips jammed in it. They are more of a PIA then anything.

Well, you go tit oiling, so I would wait for it to break before fixing it.
If there's room, you could add an oiling cup, wicked or gravity fed. See MSC big book pg 2602.

To remove, best to press out from the back if you can, else, vice-grips.

edit: You go tit oiling? I meant you got it oiling, but I'm leaving the typo for entertainment purposes for us old farts, ideas for the young.

I call those guide holes for my 0.332 ("Q") drill bit. The little ball bearing moves back and the tip fits perfectly ready for a clean drill line. Then the ball, spring and other detrius comes out with the chips. <shrug> That is what they are made for right?

0.332 is the drill size for a 1/8th NPT tap. Then you move on from there with brass fittings, aluminum distribution blocks (I make em real quick), one shot oilers, grease guns, etc and you have a whole world of options.
