    Complete Beginner

    Hi Guys,
    just joined.
I'm in the UK and looking into buying a bench mill and given time convert to CNC.
I work at sea and have access to an import Bridgeport type machine although not a great deal of knowledge on how to get the best from that or much in the way of tooling for it!!!
    Been looking at the
    AMA16V from Amadeal
Sieg X2 Mini Mill from Axeminster
    and the Peatol/Taig Micro Mill.
Had a look also at the Sherline but don't think it looks too robust.

I plan on machine mainly Ally but also some wood work stuff. Occasional Steal.

I was going to go for manual to start with so i can start straight away with some projects and also for cost.
We also have a lathe onboard which i'm a bit better with so can machine adaptors and stuff if needbe.
I've got TurboCad Mac Version 4 which i'm starting to get to grips with but not sure the best way to get into the CNC stuff or what i need,CAM, Breakout boards, motors etc.

Any help would be much appreciated
    cheers
    graeme

Oh yeah from this website i also saw some reasonable looking plans to make one from scratch from a company called modularcnc any thoughts?
