    RHINO ROBOTICS ST/7 CNC LATHE

    HI,

IT HAS A 486DX MOTHERBOARD IN IT WITH A RHINO REV.1.1 ISA BOARD IN IT WITH ROM-DOS AND TWO FLASH DRIVES (PROGRAMS THAT RUN THE MACHINE).

IF SOMEONE HAS ONE UP AND RUNNIG IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HEAR FROM YOU AND MAYBE CAN HELP ME GET THIS MACHINE BOOTED UP AND RUNNING???

    THANKS,

    Hi,

Thanks for the links but I have gone through all.

I really need someone that is running one of these machines.

They made 2 versions of controlers that used a 8088 processor (version 1), and the other used a 486DX (version 1.1 rhino board) version 2 control.

The 8088 processor needed disks to get the machine started.

The 486 DX has dos and the programs on the version 1.1 rhino board.

I need to know if this version 2 needs a floppy to boot to the ROM-dos on the rhino board then the software on the flash drives also on the board..(that should have the shell command on it)..

    OR

Am I setting up the BIOS wrong and the IRQ address are conflicting..

OK this might sound like greek but I really need to find someone that is running one.

    Hi,

Thanks, yes I did contact them. They are doing inventory right now so not too much time to talk.

I did talk to the tec. and he is a bit stumped for now.

They will be getting back to me soon (I hope).

Still need to talk to someone that has one running...

    Runs great Now

    Hi,

Just wanted to update the software problem I had with this lathe.

I figured it out with the help of Datalite that made the Rom-Dos 6.22 and the flash chip inside the machine.

I was able to get the software off the chip and run it from a ide chip hard drive I installed.

I still start it with DOS but then it jumps into the lathe program and the machine runs great.

I have had it running a few months now but thanks to the guys that helped me figure this one out..

This is a great little servo lathe and is very accurate and runs flawless.

It has a fanuc control and a 8 position tool turret with a tailstock.

If anyone has a chance to get one of these it would be a great little machine for small parts.

    Thanks for the help guys..

I just got a Rhino ST/6, also without the software. I am having a hard time tracking down a copy.

The Rhino web-site says that PC requirements were really a only a DOS computer with a serial port. Will the ST/7 software work with ST/6?

    Thanks

    Rhino st/6

    Hi,

I really do not know if that would work.

The St/7 and 8 use a controler box that is a 486 computer but it has a board in it and all the breakout boxes and connects to the lathe that has the motion controlers in it with a 50 pin cable.

Yours uses a RS232. I have never seen a st/6 or have any idea of what it has in it..

Call Rhino Robotics and ask what software runs the ST/6 lathe is your best bet..

The St/7/8 control is different and has different software all togeather since it sets up the control box.

    Sorry I couldn't help.

    Mike

Thanks for the help anyway. It was a long shot but I thought that maybe the controller connected to the machine over RS-232 as well.

I've given Rhino a call and they have provided a quote on the software, manuals and the workbooks. I am going to try to talk to one of their techs before I buy though. I want to see if the software is absolutely necessary. I would like to know if there is a way to just up-load the g-code directly to the machine. I already have software that will test the code. I just need a way to get it into the machine.

    Thanks

Thought I would give an update on my status with my ST/6.

I did buy the owners manual. It shows how to get connected to the ST/6 and how to upload a program to it.

I have tried to get mine to do a simple program but there seems to be a problem with the controller. I have a message into Rhino for help.
