    SX3 Z Gib

I'm having a heck of a time getting the rock out of my Z axis. I've heard that others found the gib having the wrong taper so I thought I would check. I can actually screw it all the way in but then it's too tight. If I back it out where it's not too tight then I get a little rock and backlash.

I removed the tapered gib strip and measure it. It's 8.350" long and is 0.243" thick x 0.313" thick. So that is a total of 0.070" taper over 8.35" which appears to be pretty darn close to 0.5 degree taper.

Does anyone know what it's suppose to be?

I'm about to go out and blue it and see what it's looking like.

I am having the exact problem as you are, does your Z gib have any oil through holes on the gib, i purchased my mill at a discount from grizzly and I am wondering if i actually got the right gib strip.
I dont want to use shims as some have done so,
I am in the process of making a new one out of brass, machined the long taper last night and will do the slide angles tonight, all I have is a 60 deg bevel cutter and that doesnt match the slide angles (maybe 50 deg) will probably still have to do some hand fitting too

I posted this same question a few days ago and no one replied, so I am doing what I think is the best solution

Mine has a single hole in the middle.

Dye showed it's only contacting on the upper half. With it nice and tight, I can slide a 0.005" feeler gauge in about 2" when going in from the bottom.

I would like to see how yours turns out. Now is the time for an angle vise !!!
