I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it. I contemplated the X3 at the low HF price but it looks like they are out and discontinuing it so I will probably go with the G0704 when they get some. It looks like a better mill for what I do.
Just getting the ball rolling on what will no doubt be another long project filled thread.
The Grizzly G0704 is the type of BF mill I've wanted for a long time.
It's design is just more appealing than any of the Siegs and if Grizzlys quality
comes close to the reputation of these mills, I'll be a happy camper.
I expect to be.
Still just waiting out the backorder but that's nothing new with grizzly.
I was one of If not the 1st zoner to order one the first week of January.
The delivery date has been pushed back once already to March 9, I won't blink if it goes till April.
Good things come to those who wait.
I had a little "holy crap" moment the other day, got an email from grizzly with the subject, "your item has shipped"
Turns out it was just a bearing cover I ordered 4 months ago.
I asked them if they would offer the mill without the stand for a little less but no go.
I don't need it so I may put it in the garage sale.
Mine is going on a heavy duty rolling cart 500lb cap. up in the lab so it will be handy.
More to come, Hoss

I am on the waitlist now too, so I'm very much looking forward to your build thread.
Do you have any specific plans for the mill? CNC conversion, belt drive, power drawbar, etc etc?
FS: Complete Z-Axis Assembly with THK RSR15WM slide, leadscrew, stepper mount. PM for more info.
Yep, those are the immediate plans, probably belt drive at the same time as the CNC conversion.
The lathe/4thaxis/trunnion for it is in progress now, then there's a new pendant, console and ATC.
Should all take about 2 weeks,

Curious. Just noticed that my credit cards available balance is $1044 less than it was yesterday.
Feb 15 was the original ship date grizzly gave me and they've backed it up twice.
They aren't supposed to charge until it's ready to ship, hmmm.
Probably just a computer glitch, I hope so actually, too Dang much snow out there to deal with unloading another mill right now.
Anyone else check their balances?

They didn't charge my card yet, but I did get a post card from them last week saying the item I ordered is out of stock and I could cancel if I wanted.
FYI Chinese New Year started on the 14th and goes on for 2 weeks everything in China is on shut down.
Rob
I got the same card from them too but guess what,
IT"S ON THE WAY!!!
Just got my email from grizzly with the tracking info, it's currently enroute, due in Pittsburgh tomorrow.
Guess I'll have it Friday or Monday.
CRAP, got some snow to dig so I can get it on/off the truck.

Oh man, I didn't want to hear that. I haven't scraped up the funds to order mine yet.
I'll bet grizzly already put in an order for another batch or 2 to complete orders.
When you're ready, you may have it in a couple days instead of waiting like the rest of us.
Thats how I got my 10x22 lathe, was back ordered for months, heard online they were in stock, placed my order and had it in 3 days.

Cool, tracking still shows it on the way to the Pittsburgh terminal and they're supposed to call first
to setup the home delivery time.
Looks like it'll be Monday.

Just curious, have you considered a "freak" conversion for the G0704? It looks like you could make an extended Y axis using two base castings, combined with an extension for the head and some supports for the column.
FS: Complete Z-Axis Assembly with THK RSR15WM slide, leadscrew, stepper mount. PM for more info.
Ordered last night......shipped....no, just kidding
Order stated they're due 4/1/2010...now to order the drives and motors before they are back ordered as well.
BG
Ummmm, no. Already have a freak so I don't need another.
Besides, wouldn't be able to think about it until grizzly or someone offered replacement parts.
This mill already has a rotating head, that's articulate enough.
The Y may get slightly increased but not too much.
We'll see what it looks like a year from now.

Hoss, thanks for the vids and the specs on the swing. Along those lines, if it's not too much trouble, I was wondering if you might be able to supply some/any of the following additional measured specs that I was curious about:
1) Quil and also Spindle Diameter. Each variant of this mill appears to have differences here and I've read reports of sloppy quills. I know this would not be too much of a concern for you for CNC though.
2) The actual measured max distance from the spindle to the table.
3) Lastly, is this table a 12mm or 1/2" T-nut slot? I've asked Grizzly to confirm that this actually took a 1/2" T-nut and they are sticking to their published spec.
Thanks for any additional info.

hmm you have had it a couple hours now and its not cnc'd yet?
just kidding of course mate
do you think that fixed drawbar will make it easier or harder to make it a power drawbar?
cheers!
