Default PM-25MV quick tool change mod

    Hey guys,
Figured I would share my quick change tool set up. It uses 6 Belleville washers like tormach and a lever to compress the springs and release the tool. I can share the cad files if anyone is interested. After the parts are made, it took about 30 minutes to install.

I made a custom draw bar with some grade 9 threaded rod from McMaster and a long nut

I also 3D printed some tool holders for all my tools. I still need to mount the holders to the machine.

    I'm keen for CAD files.

Any idea on the spring force?

    How long is the lever?

The washers I used have a flat load of 1272 lbs, here is what I used https://www.mcmaster.com/#9712k437/=17dnvyt

The lever is about 16" long and when I am not changing a tool, I flip the lever up and rest it on the motor housing. I'll try and get the cad models uploaded tonight. I need to update the model a bit for some changes I made on the fly to make it work better.

Are you using a lift plate or compressing against the spindle?

He is pushing straight down on the spindle. It should work fine. I cant imagine hand pressure being of any detriment to repeat-ability. As opposed to an air cylinder hammering it.

Nice job. I thought you were using a cam lobe at first. I always wondered how that might work.

I'm not sure what the difference would be. 1272 lbs of force no mater if it's air, hydraulic, or hand. It's still going to be hard on the spindle bearings and could muck up the pre-load.

Connor though I have seen concerns to that effect. I dont think they are true. Those bearings should be quite capable of enduring 1300# force. Especially with the hand as the force. In reality the air cylinder would probably be ok if its travel was adjusted to the stack.

I'd be interested in seeing / getting the CAD drwgs - pdf or dwg. format so I can scale down for an X2.
