CNC my mini mill using 3d printed parts

I am hoping to get my Harbor Freight mini mill converted and able to cut replacement parts for itself using 3d printed parts.

I purchased ball screws, 479 oz dual shaft steppers, etc just can't see dropping the cash for the Fusion kit :-)

Been a long time since I posted on here joined in July 2003!

Here is the Y axis mount and spacer based on Hoss machine cnc conversion

Plastic is not really ideal for those parts, especially not the printed sort. Anyway, those two parts are pretty easy to make out of aluminium, why did you chose for printing? Must have taken forever to print those large parts.

He said his plan is to get it running, so it can machine its own replacement parts. Hard to CNC brackets without a CNC machine. And to manually machine them requires more tooling than if you were to CNC them.

Looks like your printer is dialed in pretty well, nice smooth prints.

Wish I had a 3d printer back 10years ago. I made my initial conversion parts out of plywood. Once I got it working good enough, I had the machine make them out of aluminum. You have to start somewhere and having nice 3d printed parts like yours sure makes it much easier.

Will have to post pictures of my printer. The thicker y axis piece is 20.4mm thick and took about 3 hours . Started with a prusa i3 before I modified it with open build extrusions

Understanding your initial objective you have done well. The parts built should serve their purpose if loads are kept in mind.
We all saw Hoss build quite a few prototypes with 3D printed parts (after I harassed him into using a 3d printer). They worked well enough for proof of concept.
