Its Friday!!!! Drilled tapped and counter bored the 8 , 6/32 cap screws that hold the face plate on..... day dreaming behind the quill while tapping a hole i busted the tap off! worked at the broken off stub in till it was to small and then proceeded to drill it out over-sized with a carbide drill and "start" over . Decided on some off the shelf hinges for the left right action of the interface.......... yes.... uber productive! lol

    Gary,

They were missing for me as well last night, Nick reloaded them and all was perfect. I don't understand these gremlins...some random pictures in previous posts are missing now too. I can have Nick try to load them all again but I sure wish I understood how this is happening, especially as some folks see them while others don't. It's frustrating for sure..sorry.

Nick is researching this as I type. Doing a search, it seems to be a Google thing. There are issues with some picture links being temporary and some other issues with not being able to see Google hosted photos unless the person viewing is logged into Google...I don't know the technicalities as I'm only a dumb retired Millwright.

As far as getting political, all I can say is, Mr. Prez is the absolute north end of a south bound horse!

Fellow CNC zoners... Sorry for the spotty image hosting, Its becoming apparent that google photos (while easy!) is not friendly to direct linking / hosting images.... or at least i cant figure it out! I'm sick of re-posting & linking photos over and over so I'm in the process of switching photo hosting services... going to try out "imgur"..... I will still keep the google photos "grizzly" folder updated, and available for anyone to look at (every photo taken to date and into the future will be available for viewing albeit without fancy descriptions!....if you have a google account you can directly comment on pictures in the google photos album if you had questions about a particular photo that is no longer visible in old posts here on cnczone
    Link here ----------> https://goo.gl/photos/yLLp61jooprtYzFK7

I can't do anything about pictures missing on the previous 20 something pages but I'm hoping imgur will work out... For the people that missed yesterdays post....due to no images, i will batch repost them right now for yall (might have to connect the dots on your own when it comes to descriptions....)

Bouncing around a bit... photos are from the last few days... haven't seen any "i cant see the photos" posts yet so I'm going to go for it! = )

    - Nick

The machine interface is taking shape, the friction hinges (also known as a "positioning" or "torque" hinges) are now fastened to the enclosure. I have no idea if people have a clue what we are building here.. it should be pretty apparent within the next week or so. The Southco hinges are adjustable from 0-7? pounds per hinge.... when both hinges are adjusted snug they provide a solid yet adjustable interface! Schweet!

    (Drilling holes for hinges...)

    (repair? )

(see where this is going.... the keyboard and monitor trays will be the same width.... )

From today.... let the X axis linear rail work begin! *Radio static sound* .....10-4 i got a copy.... "the master rail has landed"
As of today the master rail has been installed against its datum, all the m4 holes drilled and tapped. After the other rail is installed it will be aligned to the master rail using a mag base and dial test indicator. The Z axis was done the same way and when it came time to align the rails it was easy peezy.... (its awesome to see that all the time and effort that was put into setting up and fixturing the castings for machining payed off). Hiwin very clearly states the rails can handle some miss alignment no problem, but..... its nice to know your machine work is technically "better" than it need be!!!!!!

(a video a day keeps the doctor away....)

(i believe the arrow points to the reference edge of the rail......)

(Chinese machine tools.... awesome!...... Chinese machine tools with linear rails.... priceless! lol )

The other side tomorrow...................thinks to himself....... "I hope these pictures work"..

Gary, you are correct, post#321 and before unfortunately I can't fix... If there are pictures missing from older posts you would like to see feel free to visit the google photo album linked in my signature. Imgur photo hosting seems to be working, fingers crossed! I'm hopeful this will be the end the photo shenanigans!

Made some progress today...... the second rail is now installed and aligned to the master.... rough machined the saddle to remove the bulk of the dovetails..... its looking like it just might work!!!

(table after the rails where installed and aligned)

(saddle in the mill, the black hash marks are.........."sanity" ...... "marks"......... i.e remove )

    (all that needs to go....)

    (next victim )

    (because its to fun!!!)

(the saddle after the 1" rougher had its way)

(as it stands...or sits? The next step (and i think its the most "crucial" or "challenging" aspect of the X work... the cars.... more to come! )

Had a chance to fire up the mill and finish machining the saddle to accept the linear rail cars, removing the bulk of the material with a 3/8" cutter and finishing the corners off with a wee little 1/8"... after some "de-horning" work with a stone things are looking good! I suppose the next step is to drill and counter bore 16 M4 holes!!! ......

Would love to do the same with my G0704. Plan to do a really high speed spindle (maybe a separate speeder spindle) and linear rails would achieve the precision I'm looking for and possible add some rigidity.

Planning a double ballnut repacked to hopefully get under 0.0004" of backlash and similiar with 15-20mm rails or just go strait for the Hiwin with ZB rated preload. The 20mm rails would be ideal for additional rigidity if they can fit on the XY without removing too much from the saddle.

We used the 15mm rails as they far exceeded any load this small machine would see. Larger rails would me removing more material from saddle or table and we felt things were getting pretty skinny as it was.

There were concerns voiced in a early thread about the design of our one shot oiling system and how well it would or wouldn't work without various metering valves installed. With the addition of these linear rails, the oiling system is now only required on the 'Y' axis dovetails...two oiling points. This will hopefully make any of those early concerns a moot point...hopefully.

Hello!..... We have X axis linear rails...... weeee! Picked back up working on the machine interface... Its starting to take shape now that the keyboard tray is completed.. Things are starting to take shape "quickly" !!

(the start of the "keyboard tray flipper thing..")

( it takes a little "extra" futz to make nice things on the horrible freight brake..... but it can be done!!! ..... crappy brake aside, its done some pretty amazing "work" on many other machine builds )

(end pieces for the keyboard tray)

(the start of whats to be the monitor mount)

(a video for the video people. I want to thank all the you tube creators and viewers that have reached out to me, I'm really enjoying the you tube machining community! Yall are awesome )
