So then - you want to hook the computer printer port directly to the back of the emco 25 pin plug. (no welturn or dongle) (with a good ieee printer 25 pin cable - make sure all the pins pass through and it isn't a serial cable)

I think this should work then!

Thanks, I will try that. I see that the 4th (whats the name for it?) is in upper position, and yours is in lower.
I did attach what else did the mod include in post #34, there isnt anything more significant, right?
And what could go wrong lol except some smoke and pufff.....

The mods seem to be for the CNC version of the compact 5... I don't know what they would have done to the PC version... (I wouldn't think they would have to do anything)

It came with my machine, as an instruction. No one can tell is it the same for PC and CNC.
    Keep your fingers crossed!

Look at the activity with a few photos! Some of us are visually stimulated, kind of like machine porn. Reading about it is difficult but pictures change everything. Great pics btw, and you can never have too many. You will appreciate the documentation later, when you might need it.

just to be clear - to look for 25 pin cable on both sides, or null (db9) on one side (like it is now, from computer) to 25 male to the lathe?
    thanks!

you need a 25pin on both ends. 25 pin from the printer port on the computer to the 25 pin port on the emco lathe.

Just to report in. No pufffs and no smoke. And it WORKS! And spindle encoder is reading too!
Now, to the harder part.... It seems that every time I load the config, the estop # returns to the second line so I have to adjust it? I dont know how. At some point it would be nice to have it permanetly saved as a setting. And also, to have it display mm instead of inches (metric country).
And jog speed in fullstep is set way lower than recomended 500 mm/min

So what you are saying is that it is a good day? It sounds like your issues now are very minor.

Is the jog defaulted to a lower speed or does it require holding the shift key and the jog key for rapids? I always heard a picture was worth a thousand words ;-)

Its a good day indeed! As for the issues, now the real trouble begins - with getting used to the program itself - setting up tools, offsets etc.
As for jog speed, its defaulted as low. And Sam made two setups, I am not quite sure (yet) which one to chose for what? The halfstep morph sounds nicer when moving
This might be a noob question, but if I load the given configuration, and then go to adjust it in settings to my liking (for instance faster movement in travel range, mm for units etc., tooling) and save it, I can use it always after that, right?
Most of the stuff I am about to make are already drawn (not by me) in Solidworks, now I have to search for postprocessor for emc2 for Solid, right? And to get a hang of toolpaths in Solids cam?

It seems I cant modify Sams configuration files at all (just for jog and units, that was all I intended) and I will try to make a stepconf with the info he provided(if that is possible). I am still not sure which config to use after all, the half step or full step.
Adding stop/home switches seems like a job that needs to be done quite soon, I hope that is not too difficult?
Can I send a dxf file to one of you, to get back a usable g code for threading?

what happens when you try to modify them? You cannot use the stepconf wizard as there is some hal trickery to get the latch signal need to run the emco.

The 2 configs should both work. One runs full step only.

the morph runs half step up to 16ipm(ish) then switches to full step. (so you get a bit more acuracy at low speed but still retain the shuttle)

They both work ok, you did a hell of a job man! All I waned to change was the default keasures to be in mm, and to up the jog speed, that is kind of low in G0.
I cant modify them in stepconf wizzard with "modify existing configuration"

It would require a bit of changing of the hal and ini. I could take a look at it.
