Default Denford NovaTurn Servo retrofit AMD Gizmosphere iBOB2 PCIe x1

Hello all!! I have been very busy working on several projects, iBOB1 and iBOB2 break-out boards. I have started retrofitting a Denford NovaTurn CNC Lathe. I will be replacing the Sanyo Denki stepper motors with Yaskawa AC servos 100W. The control will be closed loop using the industrial +- 10V standard.
My goal is to move Gizmosphere out of the hobby world to the industrial.

    I will post more pictures and video soon. If you want to see some basic video please go here;

    Sound Card

I have demonstrated Ubuntu 10.04, LinuxCNC and Windows 7, 32bit-MACH3 using a MESA 6i25 for closed loop analog servo control and a PCIe x1 parallel port card ( MosChip MCS9901) to breakout board for open loop stepper control.
In a previous post a few years ago at Denford, the unit does not have the controller cabinet. I am designing a new unit. It will be very small based on the Gizmosphere 1. This small size controller will allow the Gizmosphere to be used in industrial applications and control upgrades/retrofits.
    The Gizmosphere is approx 3.96" x 3.96". The iBOB2 is approx 2.5" x 2.56" in size and breaks out 1 PCIe x1 and 1 SATA port .

I welcome any comments or thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Robert Blanton

Just finished the new X axis servo motor plate. I used my converted Sherline Mill with DC servo amplifiers that I built/designed a few years ago. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Most of the initial work is posted on CNCZONE under Iron-Man Servo. I will be powder coating the parts. I have already started the new design for the Z axis servo plate.

Completed Z Axis Servo plate. X Axis Servo plate trial fit. The Z Axis did not come out as planned. I may redo it. I will also be retrofitting a Denford Triac Mill with Allen Bradley AC Servos.

Picture of iBOB2. The iBOB2 turns the Gizmosphere 1 into a powerful CNC controller. You can attach Mesa cards, parallel port cards are any PCIe compatible card.

Is this mounting plate (the top picture) powder coated? If it is, why do you want or need it powdercoated? From the pic it appears to be pc'd.

You do nice work, keep posting.

A lazy man does it twice.

It is not power coated yet, just polished. Powder coating provides a hard durable finish to protect the aluminum from any oxidation etc. You can see some of my previous powder coating here; http://www.cnczone.com/forums/bencht...3-posts-4.html

By the way, all of the servo plates were made from the servo amps I designed/made a few years ago. They work great and there is no heating problem with the OPA549 amps.

Look for Servo Reducer High Res Image.

    Thanks,

    iBOB2 proof of concept, Gizmosphere 1 high speed;

I plan on providing these for sale. So if you have a Gizmosphere 1, hold on to it. In a few weeks I will be showing a complete CNC solution based on iBOB2 and Gizmosphere 1, i.e. open source Linuxcnc and Gizmosphere.

    Thanks,

This is what I have in mind for the control panel. I hope to build my own tool changer and C axis. The Gizmosphere will eventually be located inside this cabinet. The cabinet was not available when I started initial design work. The DC drive is a 4 quadrant "servo motor" drive.

    I welcome any comments.

    Thanks

    Hello Robert,

you have send me an email but I can't respond your email adress...?

Here is my answer to your question and your machine....

    Hello Robert,

here you can download the used config:
    https://github.com/aschiffler/linuxc.../machine_cloud
Perhaps it is difficult to understand. (perhaps erase all commented
    lines for a clear view)

    Here are some preconditions:
    - The drive for the A-Axis / Lathe-Main-Spindle can be switched from
position control to speed control mode and vise versa
    - In my setup all drives have a digital field bus (ethercat); the
communication is done via the module "lcec"; lcec.0.6 is the
    lathe-axis-drive.
    - To switch the Operation Mode lathe/A-Axis you "online" you have to
unhome/home the a-Axis. (Therfore i have added some buttons in pyvcp,
    see vcp.xml)

Hope that gives some hints to help you.

The config 'machine_cloud' has add. data logger functionality; see video
linuxcnc2cloud on my youtube channel for background.

    Regards
    Andreas

Andreas thanks for the information. I am also currently working on a hardware/software solution that would have the spindle as default but switch to A-Axis when selected.

I should be posting new pictures and video soon.

    Thanks

I have been working on a design based on the iBOB2 and Gizmosphere 1. The Dimensions of the GQ1 are Width 6.79", Height 6.61" and Depth 10.29". It has 6 axis of +- 10V analog servo control and all I/O are available on 2 DB50 and 1 DB 25 connector. The RJ45 is for a pendant interface. It could also be made for step and direction. I prefer true closed loop control. I plan on selling the iBOB2 for anyone who wishes to make a ultra small CNC controller or place the complete controller within a small case or enclosure. The small circuit board in the back left is the iBOB2.

Thanks but I am not that dense that, I can't see or read the posts. That was not what I was asking about, I want to know about the control panel he has mounted in his enclosure. I fixed my post so the picture shows up.

Dan I found it new, on ebay a few years ago. I am currently connecting the functions to a Mesa 7i77 card.
The MPG and E stop were added later, also found new on ebay.

    Thanks,
