    Default 4th Axis for G0704

Who has done this and what tips can you share.

I'm leaning towards using a 5C spin indexer and attaching a stepper or servo via harmonic drive (via eBay) if I can.

    Thank you!

Yes and it is very nice. Out of my price range for the time being. Was looking at eBay for Harmonic drives. Some are not badly priced but need to understand more about what I will need. The other option is a 4" or 6" rotary table. That looks well enough documented that I can tackle it.

I have a Sherline rotary table. It is actually a pretty nice unit for the price. Seems to be as accurate as I would need. The part size would be its biggest drawback.

Fastest, with that unit the conversion for stepper would be simple yet too many features would need to be added at additional cost. Looks like you would need an angle plate for vertical mounting and I would still want some sort of chuck as well. Tail stock will be needed either way I go. Thank you though.

I have the full sherline cnc rotary table setup if you want to take a gander at it. Tailstock, chucks, angle plate (fixed and adjustable). Also have the standalone controller I used before I got the G540 controller. It's small but really well built. My problem with it is software for cam. All I've done so far has been hand code.

This is the idea I would like to try but maybe with a 5C collet system.

The Sherline unit mounts either way, no plates needed. Plenty of available accessories for their parts. To those not familiar with Sherline, the parts are very modular. Mine is not as Moto's is and uses the 4th axis of a G540 or HCNC pro boards.

Something like this with a stepper motor might be the way I go.

Here is mine built on a harmonic drive transmission. I got less than $200 in it. 200 to 1 reduction. Not as stiff as commercial but only required a stepper adapter and a backplate.

Sherline rotary tables on sale this month. I just received mine in the mail yesterday Very happy so far with the quality, but haven't made any parts on it yet. Gonna keep an eye on the monthly specials page for their 3inch 4 jaw chuck.
