    SWA Guy,

Have been busy on other stuff!
This project will be activated shortly, The bits & pieces have been occupying
valuable space on one of the corners of my Moving Gantry Router which is
also in need of some TLC. Will try to finish both of these Projects soon,
because I'm running out of space again.......

    Hi everyone
I am new to CNC and machining but out of curiosity I bought a grizzly G8750 and decided to convert it to a CNC mill. I too noticed that lack of bearing a major problem and decided to use a pair of thrust bearings at the two ends. I do not like the lead screws on the table specially since the transverse lead screw seems to have a bit of bow near the end and that causes the table to move more tightly for half turn. I was wondering if I could buy T10x2 (10mm) stainless steel new lead screws and nuts to completely replace the existing lead screws and nuts. Anyways, do you think a 10mm leadscrew will be strong enough for this table? How about 12mm? Any advice is highly appreciated. Thank you all.

    Hello CNCfun&games
I really liked your posting about the CNC conversion of the xy table.

    Davoodansari,

10 mm sounds a little skimpy to me But maybe I'm accustomed to taking heavier cuts than you are.

For my Machine Tables I specify 5/8-10 Acme thread which I purchase in either 3ft or 6 ft. lengths.

I purchase my lead screw material from McMaster-Carr because they are a local supplier and they
have an extensive stock of both In. and Metric acme threaded material.

    Good luck on your quest!

Thank you very much W Smith
It is clear that I would have to do some machining to achieve this for things like seating the bearings to threading the ends of the raw screw for loading lock nuts. I learned machining in college as an engineering student so I think I can
carefully learn how to do this. That said, I do not have access to machine shop. Do you think a small lathe like this
one will be sufficient (I can get one for couple hindered dollars second hand):

    MicroMark 7x16 Mini Lathe

    Davoodansari,

That Lathe sounds good to me!
I started ( many years ago) with a 6" lathe and never regretted it!!

You will learn a lot about Feeds & Speeds with a small lathe which will
serve you well as you progress.

    Happy Machining!
