Has anybody come across an interesting pocket on their saddle? Is it a defect or intentional modification for the cnc conversion?

Hoss, can you give me a rough idea of the length and depth of your new chip tray. I am going to make one this weekend.

Thanks for the drawing. I am thinking of using 1/2" PVC from Home Depot to make the chip tray. I think it should hold up to the coolant. .Veranda HP 1/2 in. x 48 in. x 8 ft. White PVC Trim-H120AWS6 - The Home Depot

    What do you think?

If it's solid ok but if it's like the stuff I've used before the outside is thin plastic with more like a firm foam inside, would make joining the edges difficult.

    Hey Hoss!

I just wanted to say thank you for all your support in my G704 conversion. My journey has taken 5.5 years to convert my machine into functional machine. As of the last 3 week-ends, I have put about 6.5 hours of machining time on the mill.

Now the journey to learn more on CAD/CAM begins as well.

Thank you always for your input and quick responses to my questions.

    Hoss,

I was thinking of making the front and back (long pieces) out of dimensional lumber - 1x6 or whatever it takes. Why? Convenience. I can fit a half sheet of plywood in my car easily, but not a full sheet, which I'd need for those long pieces.

All this would do is make the overall outside dimensions about 1/2" wider. I have no idea how you mount the extrusion for the walls to this, but would that affect it? I could shave that down to 1/2" with a router if need be.

    Thanks,
    Bob

That's what I used for the sides too, plywood for the panels.
The extrusions are held with toggle clamps so there's some wiggle room.

Thanks for the quick answer! Are there any pictures around that show what the attachment looks like?

I've just completed all of the metal parts for my phase 3 conversion and I'm starting on the enclosure, the oiling and flood coolant systems. I see the oiling system details in your website's Projects folder, but are there any more details on the rest? I only have the CNC Conversion DVD - is it on another?

I tried to post several times yesterday afternoon, but the system rejected it every time - something about some token expired and start over.

Anyway, I wanted to say I found the info on the enclosure, and totally misread your meaning for toggle clamps. I immediately thought of a Destaco type clamp and couldn't figure out how that could work. When I saw what you were referring to, it all made sense.

    Thanks again,

    Maybe someone can answer this

How much do I torque the 4 column bolts to?

All I can find is 60 foot pounds of torque or 90 foot pounds of torque

    Thank you
    Joseph

For anyone looking for the polyurethane marine paint Hoss recommends, I went to iBoats and was about ready to check out when I noticed they said it would ship in 28-32 days.

I don't want to put my project on hold for a month, so I went looking for another source, finally finding it at Overton's, another big marine/boating supplier. Overton's said it would ship in 2-3 days, and they shipped in 2. Shipping was free, with FedEx/USPS, and it should be at the house one week from the day I ordered it.

Just pointing this out in case it's useful to other folks. I'm not compensated by Overton's in any way.

Almost hate to ask this, but has anybody put together a hardware list for the enclosure? It looks like 9, maybe 10 pieces of the extrusion (2m lengths). I'm totally at a loss about how many of the screws, L-brackets and the rest. Been watching the videos trying to get a look at how it's partitioned.

I went shopping at 80/20, since I used to use their parts when I was still working. I was surprised they don't carry a 15mm square extrusion. They have a 20mm square that resembles the 15, but that's as close as they get. It's $14.55 for a 2m piece, while Misumi is saying $10.40 for a 2m long piece. https://8020.net/20-2020.html
