Looks good. How much did you spend on the enclosure retrofit alone?

Probably around what the Tormach deluxe stand costs.

Thats pretty good. Are you using polycarbonate for those windows? Did you consider putting metal mesh on the window for extra protection like moriseiki machines?

What about adding a roof to the top as well to improve sound suppression?

Like I said above it's 3/16 acrylic sheet. Metal mesh isn't necessary in this case. I left the top open because it gets pretty warm in the enclosure when the machine is running for long periods of time. Adding a roof would not help much with noise anyway.

The biggest contributor to noise was the stock DC motor and gear setup. After switching to belt drive and 3ph AC motor, it made a world of difference. The machine running at 5500RPM with the AC motor is 10x quieter than the DC motor pinned at 3000RPM. Not to mention the added power.

    Oh...my...God...

That whole enclosure and computer setup is absolutely amazing. Great work!

EDIT: Just bought your 3D BF20 model, with the attention to detail you have displayed throughout your conversion I feel safe assuming that you did an equally impressive job with the model.

Can't wait to start designing stuff for these things.

Outstanding work again.......very very professional.......and it's great to see a 3d surface machined part....kinda makes all the hair pulling frustration tweaking during the build fall into insignificant memories...........

    Again excellent well done........

Thank you, thank you. Yeah it was nice seeing the machine run around 40,000 lines of code and not miss a beat.

I'll see if I can get some video of it cutting.

By the way to stock bellows on the Zaxis are pathetic. I'm going to send it out to be replicated by Gortite in something more durable.

Really Really Really Really nice setup!
I think i see a small Pokeys hidden into that cabinet, have you got anyy issue running the MPG in multi step mode?
I have the same setup and velocity/step-velocity modes work ok but multistep mode in increments of 1mm (0,04 inch) i move the handwheel and the steper does strange things, in general, all the multistep mode do not work as it should, and i'm really worried to have wasted a lot of money...
Here's a little video of the thing, in the beggining i'm into step-vel mode, jog response is instantaneous, and as far as i stop turning the handweel motor stops. In multistep, i can turn the handwheel and even if it's stopped motor keeps turning... This is really dangerous.

    Thanks in advance. Best regards

    P.S. Really nice setup!

The machine needs to decelerate. You are turning the wheel faster than the machine could respond. If you don't like the delayed response, try increasing the acceleration.

I don't have my MPG connected to the Pokeys. Mine is right to the breakout board. It seems like Mach3 is queuing the steps from the MPG. Try reducing the increment to .001" or .0254mm for you metric folk.

Also try running in just step not multi-step. I know the Pokeys has gotten better over the years with MPG support but a few years ago I built a machine using Pokeys and had a MPG connected to it and it was very laggy. I use the Pokeys to handle all my push buttons, switches, and potentiometers.

Scott, I have been in Boston for a couple of weeks now w/o my computer for work, I just got back and of course came straight here. You sir, have quite a design eye and great attention to detail. What a rock star looking home built set-up Kudos.

Yep, it looks like it's just listed as "registered" now.

    Not sure what happened there.
