Gentlemen I am using a C10 BOB with Keling KL4030 Drivers and Keling KL23H286-20-8B motors for my machine. I tested my system on the workbench, and was able to get everything working and jog the motors under Mach3 control. I tested my X axis on the machine and it initially ran smoothly when jogging at all speeds. My Y and Z axis motors have not been installed in the machine, only bench tested. The Y motor seems to run very smooth at all speeds. But when trying to run at full rapid the Z axis will intermittently lock it's shaft, and the motor sounds as if it is still running. Additionally, my X axis motor now sounds quite rough - both in the machine and on the bench at all speeds. Both the X and Z motors are losing steps. Any thoughts on what might be the issue, and best troubleshooting path? Thanks for your help. |

| I have the same motor/driver package. It sounds like a simple problem of driving the motors too fast. I had the same problem on my Z axis where my lead screw is 10tpi. If I drive it at a rate of >60ipm it will lose steps. Unfortunately those particular motors have a torque curve that drops off very sharply so you must use a high-lead screw to drive the axis (I have 10tpi, 5-start on x and y and will be changing to a 10tpi 2 start on my z). This is the most likely problem although be sure to check that you have the driver dip switches set to the a microstep rate that matches your set up in Mach. Hope this helps. I'm a newbie too and I know how frustrating it can be setting this stuff up! |

| Thanks for the feedback. I reduced my max rapid rate from 120 to 100 IPM and increased micro stepping from 8 to 16. With this change I had to change Kernel speed to 35KHz. Everything is smooth now, and no missing steps. Seems to have fixed the problem. I am using 1/2-10 5 start acme on my X, and 3/8-10 2 start on Y and Z. |

| Thats good that its smooth now; however, you sacrificed some speed maybe a little prematurly. It sounds like a classic resonance issue, by adding a makeshift damper it is unbelievable the difference in the motors capabilites. Do some looking around, check out these links http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32284 |
