Procrastination got the better of me

A bad story as long as it takes. I have a friend who built a JGRO router and with "it" he built a Joes; and I saw this stuff in his garage one day while visiting him. I was so enthralled that I went home, did a small amount of research, and went ahead and built a JGRO for myself. I wanted to get going as soon as possible so I, without a lot of research, ordered the Xylotex 3 axis package with the 425 oz. motors. Seemed like a good deal. I was making dust one day and decided that I should maybe be keeping the area clean and fired up the old vacuum. Well I fried a board. Jeff, probably with the patience of Job, did not chew me out or tell me how ignorant I was, just took back my controler box and sent me either a new one or fixed my controller. So in the time that I was waiting for my controller box to be returned and without a whole lot more research I had a knee jerk reaction and bought a new G540, thinking that I would slowly build a new box myself and then I would have a spare if I should ever be so unlucky enough to fry another board. Well my warranty on the Xylotex has expired and I never finished the new box build and, you guessed it, I fried another board. OK, now I have a couple of questions that are just me being cheap. I will do the right thing if anyone will be so kind as to tell me the right thing to do but a guy has got to ask. Can I just open up the Xylotex box, take out the board, and replace it with the
G540? Or is the 24V power supply not enough for the Gecko? Or should I purchase a 48V power supply and install that and the Gecko? Or maybe you guys (or gals) have an even better solution. I am NOT an electronics guy. If I was I would probably ruin the stuff I have then be in a real pickle. Thanks in advance for any advice. Tom
