I purchased the latest controller box and got 3, 425 KL23H286-20-8B motors along with it and a spare Break out board, from john. Quick delivery! thanks! The following are questions for John, One minor issue, 3 nuts are missing, inside the controller box. See pictures. These hold the hex screws that support the box side metal plates. can you please send them to me or tell me what size they are so I can purchase them. Also, I noticed that my cotroller box, layout of internals, are different than the picture on your site. Did I get an older or newer version of controller box? On mine, the power supply is directly in line with the fan, where as on the picture of the controller at your site and on some of these threads, the drivers are more in line with the fan. Will this make a difference in the operation of the controllers when they start to ge warm or hot? My controller came with no AC power cable, and no RS232 cable, are these supplied by the user? or was I supposed to get these with the controller box? Anyone? My controller box has the power cabling daisy chained from one driver to the other with only one set of power cables coming direct from the power supply itself to the first driver. Is this OK?. Most of the controllers I've seen have the power distribution from individual separate wires coming direct from the power source, not daisy chained. I am concerned about the daisy chained drivers not being at the same potential, since daisy chaining may introduce input voltage differential, drops. Ok, I have been reading this area and printing data sheets from the Keling site so that I can go on with a retrofit of motors and controller to a MAXPATH42 router, which I have been having trouble with the original router controller. The package I got is a lot more powerful, and is step and direction only, no encoder, so I removed the old motors and in process of installing the 425s , so this machine should outperforn its previous original configuration. However, because the MAXPATH42 router original machine had the y and Z axis on dovetails, I decided to make it mechanically smoother by using a combination of 3/8 dia precision railings and v-groove roller bearings. I don't need a lot of mass and force for what I am cutting, just faster, smoother and more precision. The machine is very smooth, on all axis, now. So next, I have to finish the motor connections to the supplied connectors that came with the controller box. Before I do so., I have a few more questions... 1) is there a preferred way for hooking up the motors? I am trying to decide weather Bipolar Series or Parallel. I want speed and some moderate torque as I will only be using this machine to cut 1/16" thick fibeglass, but the parts need best precision and resolution. 2) I am looking to do a "quick disconnect" using Sub D 9 pin connectors, at the motor end. Looking at the 425 motor case wiring connection, it appears that it already has a quick disconnect? or hard wired to the motor itself, Johh can you confirm? Is that a disconnectable motor plug on the motors where the wires come out from? 3) I am loosing the optical encoders from the original machine configuration, since the new controller drivers have no provisions for connecting an optical encoder, and someone in another thread mentioned that MACH 3 does not work with optical encoder setups? I am not sure on this. Any input? 4) Limit swithes: There is a 4 pin connector similar to the connectors for the x,y and Z axis, on the back of the controller, is there a diagram for connecting the limit switches? I can follow the original machine scheme wich I believe they are in series, in a closed circuit with an open registering a STOP all windings on the motors. But looking at the break out board schematic, for the Home or Limit Switch, it looks like it needs a closed contact to register a stop all windings?? Need to look at this again.. Also does anyone know, if there is a recommended higher quality brand of motor cable that is more flexible than the typical grey multiconductor shielded ones? Thanks a lot guys. What you may be referring to is that Mach does not close the loop via encoders, the drives do this when using servo's, however. Al.

| Ok, im going to trow a few tid bits out there. be carfull how much speed your expecting. Remember the motor size has nothing to do with speed!!!!!!! You are running 20 tpi screws. So to get descent speed from them you are going to be spinning ALOT of RPM`s at the motor. With higher rpms torque drops drastically. Another thing to consider with such large stepper motors is the backlash nut itself. Your screws are 1/4 in and the backlash nuts are not much bigger. If you crash the machine or inadvertently get in a situation where you need the motors to lock up rather then rip the machine apart, chances are those large steppers are going to rip your plastic backlash nuts apart before they lock up. Also never make heavy cuts with the machine in anything at all. because of the small plastic nuts. I hope you get the machine up and running and pictures would be great. |

| A bit of unfamiliarity with the new equipment, and lack of having all the information in one shot. I had to piece together quite a bit of information, given that CNC installations are not new to me, the equiment, controllers and a bit of modification thought to existing one posed questions that I wanted to make sure I had the right answers so not to make any unnecesary mistakes. I would like to report that my ugraded MAXpath42 machine with the Keling controller has been working smoothly. I am not runnig the motors too fast but they are much much faster than before when the router was running strictly on dovetailed rails and with the stock MAXNC control box. The software Mach 3 has been running well too, I had to dedicate a new computer for this machine and so that Mach 3 would run smoother. I went through a lot of pains in the process of upgrading the router with the new controller and a new roller type rail retrofit of my own design, but it has been worht it and now, it has begun to pay back my investment in the better controller and time spent modifying the machine's mechanics. |
