425 oz. Motors 5056 Drivers and new PSU

I have keling 425 oz. motors on a working CNC router that I built. I bought a package from Keling with a 24V power supply and the 5056 drivers. Everything works fine and it's directly connected to my lead screws and in Mach3 I'm running at 40 IPM.

I bought a 48V power supply from keling thinking it would do me one better, but now I'm confused.

What will the 48V power supply do differently than the 24V? I think I have the 24V 8.3 amp and the new one is the 48V 5 amp. I just noticed he has a new power supply with 7.3 amps. Am I going to run into trouble with only 5 amps running 3 motors?

The 5056 will accept up to 50V. The motor will accept at least 80V. (4.17V*20) Higher voltage causes much faster coil saturation per pulse, so 48V PS should at least DOUBLE your rapid speeds. The three 2.8A motors need at least 5.5 Amps, (.65*(2.8*3)) which is pushing the envelope of your 5A PS, so you might be better off with the 7.3A supply.

    CR.

    HelloCarthesium,
i am build a simillar machine as you described. I am still using the evalution copy of Mach 3 software and Lazy Cam. I bought the same stepper motor package, and think the power supply is my weakest link right now. I was hoping to get at least 80 ipm and I am closer to 35 than 40. What setup info are you runing in Mach 3 and what microstepping are you using? Thanks - Ben

    Hi Ben
How did you tune the motor? You should get more than 70 ipm. Check here for Mach3 set up:
    http://www.kelinginc.net/Mach3Tutorial.doc
    • The step resolution of the motor drive, if you set at 8
    • The thread pitch of the screw. (How far the table moves with each rotation
of the screw) let us say it has a 5TPI pitch.
    So Step per should be 200 x 8 x 5 = 8000.

Send me your question to support@kelinginc.net
