| Smitty, If space is a problem, gearheads often are a good solution. If you have room, other less expensive methods are available. I've used them before and as often as not, I had problems with them. Remember, they have small gears with tiny teeth and itsy-bitsy bearing parts in them. Good quality is required. As I said, some did work. Think of the high quality planetary gears running in well lubricated automatic transmissions. Just don't try to tow a trailer full of bricks with a compact car with an auto tranny.

| You should check Ebay, they often have new planetaries in the box for two or three hundred dollars. A lot of 34 size go off cheap, often new. Size 23 are more in demand, but even at that I have some new ones I'd let go for a few hundred as well, even zero backlash harmonic drives. Takes some looking but there are some good deals out there from a number of surplus dealers. |
