Smile KL-11080 Driver questions - anyone use these?

hello all

I have a couple big steppers -

Slo-Syn nema42 MH112-FJ-4206 * 4.25 Volts * 8 Amps * 2400 oz/in

to put on an old wells index 823 i have collecting dust in my garage

I thought this driver would fit the bill and make things easy with no psu needed

my buddy emailed John who said that

"The KL-1180 will work, but the motor will be hot if you continue to run"

--- can anyone explain to me why this is - and maybe how to deal with it?

i know i can use a dc psu and another driver
but again i thought it would be easier to do it this way

if a transformer or variac or something was used to lower ac input voltage
would it do away with the heating problem?

thank you all for listening
just trying to get my stupid mill running lol

eta: very happy with the other keling products i have thank you

I haven't run across a cool running stepper, yet. It seems like the driver fits the specs of your motor. Can't see why it wouldn't work.

Some of the things that John has said to me were rather cryptic......or at least I interpreted them that way due to a bit of a language difference.
