    Default HELP NEEDED!!!! NEMA23 570 oz/in 3.5A (KL23H2100-35-4BM)

    Hi

Does anyone have the motor info for mach 3 setup for the NEMA23 570 oz/in 3.5A (KL23H2100-35-4BM) motor? I have the motors in the link below and am using a gecko G540.

That's not a great choice of motor for the G-540, which only goes up to 50v. You won't get much speed out of it. It really wants about 80v, due to its high inductance. If you haven't bought the motors yet, find other ones. If you haven't bought the G540 yet and have those motors already, think about getting three G-203V drives instead.

Mach3 doesn't need much info about the motors, beyond the 200 steps per revolution which is pretty standard.

What motors would you recommend using with the G-540 since i already have it?

You want a stepper that works best at about 50 volts. So, applying the formula 32* (square root of) X < 50 the inductance has to be around 2.4 mH. So if you want to deal with Automation Technologies, the kl23h276 would be a pretty good choice: http://www.automationtechnologiesinc...kl23h276-30-8a . At 2.2 mH inductance per phase (wired bipolar parallel) it's a good match for a 48v power supply, which the G-540 could handle easily.

I don't know what you're putting these on, but if you're building a large machine and really need more torque to push a big gantry around, you could get high-torque motors, which have much less inductance for their size, like the 34-frame #34097 from Automation Direct (see http://www.automationdirect.com/stat...stepmotors.pdf ). But they are a lot more expensive.

I am going to be using the motors on a ebay 6040 machine i got in a trade and decided to improve the system since the Chinese board was fried.

In that case, I think 23-frame motors should be fine. Here's one with the same inductance but a little more torque: https://www.circuitspecialists.com/n...7bygh405a.html

Most of the 6040's generally tend to come with steppers in the 180oz/in range, so almost anything that is in the ideal inductance range for the G540 as Andrew pointed out will be more than adequate.

    cheers, Ian

    It's a state of mind!
