    Default torque issues with KL-5080H

So I've been running the larger NEMA34 versions of these closed loop steppers for a while now on my milll. So I bought the smaller NEMA 23 version for a lathe than I'm building, and The steppers work great with no load on them, but once I connect them to the lathe, they go to crap. When I try to jog to machine I get the following error on the control. I know my power supply is putting out a good 48VDC and I downloaded the software to connect to the control. For fun, I put to following error limit as high as it would go, and it was def better, but after a few sec they would freeze up. I could hear them trying to move, but they go no where. These steppers should have plenty of torque to move the leadscrew, as I can rotate it with 2 fingers easily.

So any ideas on what I can check to get these bad boys up and running correctly?
