    DXF file questions

I sent a DXF file to a friend with a CNC (he uses ArtCAM)

I generated the file by taking an Assembly INTO a drawing and then saving as DXF.

The message he got was "Failed to read 3DFACE records from DXF file. Check file contains 3D triangle data"

    I haven't got a clue. He hasn't got a clue.

Anybody have a clue as to whether the DXF should contain the correct information and if it does why ArtCAM is puking?

Needless to say the perspective support folks like to point at each other.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.

Don't use either, but it looks like ArtCAM is looking for 3D faces only, and there are none in your .dxf.

A better option would probably be to export an .stl.

    dxf and artcam

    Interesting.

A DXF file isn't what I thought it was.. or AD decided to make it something else.

I seem to spend as much time "converting" files as generating them!

    Thanks.

A .dxf file can contain any entity that an AutoCAD .dwg file can, from simple lines to complex 3D solids.

Probably not what you thought it was. AD hasn't changed it, other than adding features with each new AutoCAD release.
