Hi guys, First I don't know if the right term is planning or planificating or planifying but basically is that thing that you make solids become a piece of paper or other planar surface... I really need help on this I have no idea how its done and if it can be done, what I have and want it to do is to get the planning of the side surface of a cone but not in the regular way that you have the cone made with lines but with a helix. I dunno how to explain... But take a look at the pictures... Lets consider this cone a paper cone, and where the helix line is you would cut it with scissors. After you cut it all you would have like a kind of curved shaped or swirl kinda figure so when you twist back up again and glue it you will have your cone the way it was... Picture 1 is autocad model with the helix, solid and wireframe Picture 2 is a drawing of how a planning of this kinda looks like, consider the grey a piece of paper, I made a little papermodel to see how it was and thats how it looks like... Thank you all

| You want to flatten , or unwrap it. You can't do it in AutoCAD. I know how to draw an unwrapped cone in one piece, but not the helix.

is that a really hard thing to do on solid or it easy? Beacause i just know the basics... I will have to install solid again but im kinda afraid that this will be too hard, I searched for videos of this kind of thing for both programs and no one have example of this... Is it a fact that autocad cant flatten any solid? I'm trying a lot but no sucess...

Do you know how to draw the unwrapped cone on autocad? How do you do it? I have an idea to draw the helix one using the normal one that I think it will work. Thank you, Gustavo

see attached for an example of this using Inventor. Note the *.ipt file is in 2010 format, note you'll need to move the "ended of folded" marker down the feature tree to see the spiral features (using the "end of part" marker like this reduces the file size)
