| Hi all, I'm working with mechanical desktop for a while and I wanted to convert them to G-code. I have mach 2 that converts dxf to G-code and that works great for files I found on this website(thanks!) Now I've drawn a 3d drawing and saved it all possible types of dxf. Then I tried to open it with mach 2 but it won't open the files. I've also read about the error, that mechanical doesn't make correct files. Bu t I've updated to service pack 3... Can someone please help me? I really don't understand what's wrong with my version... |

| You have to convert the 3-d geometry to 2-d, but using the copy face and than exploding it. Or you can export it as a Iges File, that if mach will import it.

| Can you post the .dxf here? Try an older version .dxf, if the option is available.

| THose .dxf's can't even be opened in AutoCAD. The v2000 .dxf gives me a message saying the drawing contains cutom objects created by Mechanical Desktop. All 3 say they are substituting fonts, but no fonts display. I was able to see a preview of the 2004 version, but it wouldn't open in ACAD 2002. First, text in a .dxf can not be converted to g-code, unless it is exploded into lines or polylines. Second, make sure ALL the objects in your .dxf are either lines, polylines, arcs, or circles. Click on each one and check the properties to see what they are. Third, If the above doesn't work, then there is a problem with the .dxf files themselves, and I can't help you there.
