Autocad Cad Overlay

Does anyone know what "Autocad CAD Overlay" does for your cnc? Does it generate gcode? Does it create parts? Or is it some sort of database for your inventory of parts? How can it be used?

Thanks,

Buy me a Beer?

It has nothing to do with cnc at all. It's used to combine images with cad drawings.

It's a raster to vector translation tool. It converts scanned raster images into vector drawings. It can also leave the drawing as a hybrid, half scan and half vector line drawing. Mainly used for converting old hand drawn prints over into the computer.

I do believe they do not make/support Overlay anymore it's now called Raster Design
Here is the site about RasterDesign
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...01719#section7

From Autodesk's page
2. Why do I need Autodesk Raster Design if the basic AutoCAD application has raster functionality?

Only Autodesk Raster Design enables you to modify and save or export images for use with other drawings or applications. As a raster conversion and editing application, it includes many tools to help you work with raster files such as tonal adjustment, palette controls, REM (raster entity manipulation) with SmartPick, Raster Snap, and image Rubbersheeting, OCR (optical character recognition), and vectorization tools with Smart Correct. AutoCAD software only lets you insert, view, and plot raster images.
