I have been using Autocad for a few years. After upgrading to AC 2008 I have found an issue I cant figure out. If I draw a horizontal line in TOP View then swich to FRONT (or any other) View, and then rotate the line about an end point of the line, the line will rotate relative to the TOP View only. In the past I would be able to rotate (or any modify) from any view I was viewing from. Any help would be appreciated |

| I haven't used 2008, so don't know for sure, but in older versions, the UCS would change when you changed views. Is the UCS remaining locked in place? A quick Google turned up this, which might help. "If you have saved different UCS settings in individual viewports and you switch between viewports, the different UCSs are not retained in the Previous list. However, if you change a UCS setting within a viewport, the last UCS setting is retained in the Previous list. For example, changing the UCS from World to UCS1 would retain World at the top of the Previous list. If you then switch viewports with Front as the current UCS, and then change the UCS to Right, the Front UCS is retained at the top of the Previous list. If you then choose the UCS Previous option twice in this viewport, the UCS setting changes to Front, and then back to World. See the UCSVP system variable."

| Get to the view you want to see, I.E. front view, then type UCS and hit enter. Then type V and enter. This will change the UCS to the current view you are looking at and place it so the Z axis is up in your view. To change it back, typw UCS, then W, for world. Hope that helps. |

| I personally like to keep my UCS in world setting 99% of the time. I always know which way is up (Z) and usually only change it if it makes what I want to do worth the time to change it and then change it back. (You may saw it only takes a minute, but to regen one of the drawings I work on takes 20-30 seconds when they get large). Another command you might try is rotate3D. It lets you pick the axis you want to rotate around. This command is not to be confused with 3Drotate, which last time I tried it (when it came out I think in 2007) didn't really work right. |
