Question about printing

How do I print a drawing to scale across multiple A4 sheets?

I am trying to print out Joes Cnc dwg files but either it resises to the a4 page or it prints a corner of the drawing.

I have set the scale to 1:1 in mm.

Thanks

Buy me a Beer?

Draw some reference lines and do 4 separate prints, and align them to your reference lines. AutoCAD has no built in way to print across multiple pages.

Is there another program that will?

Use the window setting when printing to select the area to be printed and the scale should be 1=1 if the page is in paper space.

If you are printing from model space then you will have to take into account the size of the boarder because the parts should be drawn 1=1 units with scaled details, then you will need to print to the boarder scale while using window to select your 4 - A4 sheet areas.

I have not seen Joe's drawing so I could not speak more directly to the issue.

Hope this helps

Hi fred. TurboCAD has an A4 multi-page print option. The interface is similar to AutoCAD and I believe the newer versions are AutoCAD compatible.

Are you familiar with Layouts in AutoCAD? (2000 and later I believe)

What I do is
Select a layout tab and set up the paper size I wish to use.

Delete the default viewport generated.

Type Mview and select Fit

This will create a viewport using the entire printable area available on your printer.

I copy this viewport to create a series of tiled viewports (2 X 2 for example)

Then I stretch the original viewport to cover the entire Tiled area

Drop XL lines at the borders of each of the tiles (horizontally and vertically)

Delete all but the stretched viewport

Activate PSpace on the viewport

Then I set the model to paper space by typing

"Z 1/100XP"

That set the printing to 1 paper unit = 100 model units (adjust according to your needs)

Return to paper space

Plot the "tiled" areas of the single viewport using the window option on the Plot popup screen and the intersections of the XL lines.
This takes about 30 seconds for me to set up (done it often) and is great when attempting to plot out drawing areas without carring about the title blocks. This also insures you maximize the usable area of your printer.

I am sure there are many other ways, but this one works for me.
