| I have picked up an architectural design project. The client has ditched his original architect ( on speaking terms). He is fully paid up and has asked me to take the project to the next stage, so I am not poaching here! He has e-mailed me dwg's of the project in its current form. I need to make changes (to show more detail and text etc) but the dwg is write protected and so I can't save any changes that I do make. Is there any way I can 'unprotect' this? (file/properties/ uncheck the box won't work 'cuz the box ain't checked!) It would be a massive amount of work to re-draw. Cheers, Smudger. |

| You mean it's marked "read only"?

| Like Gerry mentioned, right click the file and look at 'properties' and uncheck read-only, many times when DWG are copied to CD etc, they are set to read only in this manner. Al.

| A quick search of AutoDesks forums says uncheck read-only. Or, try to wblock the entire drawing and see if that works.

| No problem we get this all the time when we open someone elses drawing through the network. We can't save it back to there computer but we can save it to our own. It is just a safter so other people can't modify your original drawing. |
