M2S error in Acad2000

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to create a solid from a mesh using the M2S Lisp in Acad2000. I get the following error message:

The Boolean operation on solids failed.
Modeling Operation Error:
Inconsistent containment of intersection curve.

I've tried lowering my values of surfu, surfv, surftab1 and surftab2 to no avail. Do I need to keep going lower these or is there something else I need to check? I'm no expert in ACAD and if I continue to lower these values I'm going to lose a lot of the detail I'm trying to create. I've already lost a lot.

Thanks,
Mike

Buy me a Beer?

Does the lisp create the solid "blocks" before quitting? Sounds like it does, and the error is in joining them. With boolean errors, there usually isn't much you can do. Do you really need to have a solid?

Unhappy

Hi Ger,

Thanks for replying. Yes, it makes the blocks but doesn't finish unioning them at the end. I've blown up interections where it seems to have problems and found that there are very small extenstions beyond the "surface" of the mesh. It's almost like there are two blocks in the same area, but one is slightly longer on one face.

I've found that I can get it to work but I need to set surftab1 and surftab2 to very low numbers (28-30) which means the faces are about 0.25" on a side for my model, so I end up losing a lot of detail (I'm trying to mill a wing for an R/C airplane). If I don't taper the wing from one end to the other (constant chord) it works fine. Unfortunately this makes a rather boring wing . I need a 3D solid so that I can export an .STL file to Meshcam.

Would the ability to "loft" allow me to make a solid with two airfoil profiles, one at each end of the wing?

Best regards,
Mike

You don't need an .stl for MeshCAM. Just explode the mesh(es) and save as a v12 .dxf. I sent Robert a lot of AutoCAD .dxf's with exploded meshes during the development of MeshCAM, until it worked perfectly. You shouldn't have any problems that way. Just be aware that the .dxf's will take much longet to load than an .stl

If you can't get it to work, post a .dwg with the mesh and I'll look at it.

Talking Big Thanks!

Ger,

Thank you for the another option of inputting a model into Meshcam! It worked great and is so much easier!!!

Best regards,

Mike
