Hello, I have Autodesk Inventor Series 2008. I do not know how to convert a customer's IGES file into DXF using the Autodesk inventor Series 11. I had to use a friend's TurboCad Professional version 12 to open the IGES and then save it as DXF, but find that the arcs on the IGES file are small lines instead. Does anyone know how to convert an IGES file into DXF using Autodesk? Thanks in advance. |

Many thanks in advance.

| DXF is flat 2D data IGES is a 3D package you can't convert 3D data into DXF format but maybe you can convert to a native Autocad doc. file instead. By the way if you are running Autocad I feel sorry for you!

| You might try importing the IGES file in to Inventor. Then create a drawing file with the various views you want of the 3D file. Export the drawing file as a DXF. This is basically how I have done it in the past using ProEngineer and Unigraphics NX. |

.dxf can contain 3D meshes, polygons and solids and any other 3D entities that AutoCAD can produce. It's just an open ascii format of the AutoCAD .dwg format. It's not limited to 2D data.

I use Rhino to generate a flat pattern from a 3D IGS file. It has a a feature called "Unroll developable surface" that takes a 3D surface of a model in any orientation and lays it flat at 0,0,0. |
