    Help needed

    HI

I have been asked to draw the below twisted rope mirror and not sure the best way to go around it . I have tried the loft tool but not sure if I'm doing it right as it does not look good and does not flow evenly . I also cannot work out how many sides the original image has .

    Any help greatly appreciated
    Jon

Looks like 5 or 6 sides to me. And it looks like it twists 360°

What I'd do, is draw the profile. Then do a polar array of the profiles around the axis through the center of the ring, so that you have a profile every 30°. Then rotate each profile 30° in the same direction, so the start points of each profile are offset 30° to the previous profile. Then try lofting them.
You might have better luck lofting halves, then joining the two halves.

    Hi

Many thanks for your quick reply . I have given it a go usin a 6 sided profile spaced at 30deg rotated 30 degrees and it has worked to a fashion yet were each part joins it does not flow perfectly it rises at each join if that makes sense . I have posted some images if you have an idea how to make these smother it would be appreciated

    Thanks Jon

It looks to me like your profiles are not perpendicular to the path?? Could be an optical illusion, though.

If they are, try playing with some of the lofting settings.

Also, you might want to try adding some guides through the vertices, probably using splines.

If I get a chance later, I'll give it a try.

This is defiantly not a simple part but I got it. I am not sure what your doing wrong but I was able to get it and I have attached a copy of how I got it. A lot of it was I had to manually map the points in which its lofted to.

thanks for that , its easy to see were i went wrong . I was lofting one drawing to another one at a time so i had one new part and 11 added to that hence why it was flowing join to join . Hope that makes sense
