Ok, i have autodesk inventor 7 pro, i draw all of parts and then make prints and save as dwg or dxf, but it seems when people try to vie my drawings they are blank or theres not dimensions, also when i send a print to my brother that has solid works it will open it but, it has the "paper print" behind it, soild works is usually black with the white lines but my autodesk drawing s shows up with the white paper and my drawing on it.... I am fairly new to this and am self teaching myself this, any help would be greatly appreciated....
Try send it as an IGES file.
The only formats on the "save as" menu are dxf,dwg,bmp,dwf, and dwp.........
Do you have an 'export' function?
Well i found the way to save as iges, its only available under the part file and not drawing file, so i saved a copy of the part file as an IGES and a STEP file, im not sure if this will work but if anybody could see if you can open this it would be awesome, thanks.
well crap, it wont let me put a step or iges file on here.... anybody have an email i can send it to to see if it can be opened and used?

heres a step and an iges file both zipped... let me know if anybody can open these and if they are useable drawings... hope this works...
Botht he IGEs and STEP file import ok:
Although you were mentioning dims and block stuff. Those wont translate through a nuetral format (Native application stuff) So you would need to explode this type of stuff to geometry to send it along..
The other thing you could do is to look into Autodesk trueview and design review.. These can view and translate dwg stuff so others can review the native file, and get at the geometry too.
Burrman, thank you for all the help!! Now im getting somewhere! Ok now bare with me.... i am ne to this so im not sure what you mean about blocks etc...
What i think your saying is that you cannot pull dimensions off of the step file? Or are there no dimensions and its just a part with no dimensions on the step file?
If you could tell me what i need to do so that my part drawings are useable by the companies that will be quoting these.

Ok now i know what your saying, about the dimensions, that it doesnt physically have the dimensions on it, i dont care about that, as long as the part opens and they can export it to theyre cam software and make toolpaths so they can quote my work, thanks for all of your help burrman and the rest of you cnczone'ers!!!
since this is a step file 3d part, will anybody hae problems using these files for cutting these parts out in acrylic on a cnc router?
