Hello all I use ACAD 2011 LT and would like to use a cam that is clever enough to toolpath while recognizing layers. Typically I have a 3mm bore layer, a 5mm bore layer, a 3/8" outline layer, etc. I would like to draw my cabinet and have the cam pickup everything on a certain should be cut with a specific tool. Thanks Steve |

| ASPAN is the only software I have used that recognizes layers as part of the CAM process (for setting Z depths of cut). Almost all other CAM software use layers, but is just to turn on/off visibility while selecting tool paths (Z depths are input by user), which is what I think you are trying to do. So, once you save your AutoCAD file as a DXF and import it into CAM, you use the CAM controls to turn layers on and off for this selection. Basically any CAM will do this.

| CadCode can do it. CADCode Systems | Software Solutions for Automated Manufacturing It's an excellent program for high production cabinet making. Also, Vectric's V-Carve Pro and Aspire have toolpath templates, which can be set up to assign toolpaths to specific layer names, and automatically create the toolpaths from your .dxf files. This will do exactly what you want, once you set it up.
