Question Need help with Spline to DXF to Polyline

I'm having a problem that is confusing me and need some help.

I know that if I save an Autocad drawing with splines as a R12 DXF file, it will change the spline over to a polyline and then I can machine it.

The problem is that sometimes when I do this, the resulting line is not smooth anymore. It has thousands of little jagged steps.

I have done this before and gotten smooth lines so I'm thinking that there is a setting that I'm missing.

I tried adjusting the DXF export precision from 1 to 16, but never really got the results I wanted.

    Any suggestions will be welcome.

    THanks
    Trent

Do you mean like a stairstep effect?

Yes, they are only about .001 to .002 in size.

I haven't seen that. I thought it might be a system variable, but can't find one. If you can't figure it out, you could use the spline to polyline lisp from Cadalyst magazine. This is a new one. http://new.cadalyst.com/code/browsey...ullyear=2005#6

I've been using the one from December 2003.

Thanks Gerry, that Lisp routine worked pretty well. I just had some minor end clean ups to do, but very easy.

One thing I've noticed with it, is that sometimes it clips or extends the ends of the splines. It doesn't happen often, and it's usually a drwaing that I didn't do. It also converts 3D splines to 3D polylines. That's how I'm doing those MDF panels.

Gerry, the Dec 2003 version clipped and and extended the splines. I tried the newer version and it worked alot better.
