| IGES files can be 2d or 3d. Autocad can import most iges files using the "igesin" command. If the iges file was 3d, you will have a 3d Autocad drawing. The entities you get when you import the iges file might vary depending on the kernel (underlying 3d solid engine) that is used by the program that wrote the iges file. If the iges file was written by a program that uses the "ACIS kernel" your drawing will be OK. Autocad uses ACIS solids. If the iges file you are trying to import was written by a program that uses the "Parasolid Kernal" you may wind up with a lot of 3d surfaces. Bill (PS If you meant Catia rather than Kotina (I have not heard of Kotina), you will get the surfaces) |

Thanks for the response. I did indeed mean Catia. I am not familiar with all of the functions of acad, I have taught myself to use the package but there are still big holes in my knowledge. I tried the igesin command in several different ways and on each occasion was told to go to help. Help does not cover this command only refering to autolisp. May I ask for more detailed command line please. Sorry to be such a nuisance Dave

| I couldn't agree more unfortunately I live in the UK where Acad is not only expensive, for what it is, at £2750 but once purchased you cannot sell it on, when times get hard, or even leave it to your decendants when you die. Typical Acad arrogance! Dave

| pip Thanks for that information, I went to solid works site and registered with them, I have just received a CD with the "Xchangeworks" plug-in on but have not had time to load and try yet. When I have done so I will report back. Dave
