Help! ACAD2002 won't let me Dimension :drowning:

I'm using ACAD 2002 and have used it for years with no problems, I've done 100's of drawings.

Within the last week it won't let me use the Dimension command: Linear, Aligned, Diameter etc nothing under the Dimension Menu up the top.

It also opens up a dialogue window when I load a drawing that I made in the past- gos along the lines of the following:

"The last command created proxy objects and proxy entities, etc blah blah blah...."

Have I killed it? and how can I resurect it. I can't reinstal cos my predecessor (who's dead now) "lost" the disks.

Any help very greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Buy me a Beer?

Proxy objects are typically created be newer versions of the software, or 3rd party add ons. Was it saved by a newer version?

Hmm, no- it's the samesoftware I've been using for years. Might be the addon thing, but I can't remember installing any 3rd party stuff *scratches head*

I am using an older version of Acad, but I can load a menu of my choosing, maybe you accidentally loaded a different version?
The Menu command can load a xxxx.mnc file.
The default used to be acad.mnu/mnc/mns

Thanks Al, that might be it, I noticed that my menus have changed... I must have loaded something or other

Guess I'll need a new copy. Oh well.

Did you try the Menu command? See what shows up under .mnc or .mnx?
You may have the original under Acad.MNC and when you use the Menu command it compiles it to the .MNX extension.
You could also try copying any .MNC menus to another name, mymenu.mnc.
Then the original will not be used.
The .MNC can be used to customize any menu format you want, such as Electrical, Mechanical etc.
These can be attached to a template file for future auto loading.
This is the way it has been up to the version I am using.
If you know anyone with the same version, get them to email a copy of the acad.mnc file, but your original could still be recompiled to restore the acad.mnx menu.
Also try a search to see if a copy has been made in another directory.
Al.

How did you make out?
If you want to try an older version menu, I can send you the default .mnc file I have for you to run.
If it does not work, just revert back to the previous one.

I was going from memory and had it backwards, the .mnc is the compiled and the .mns is the source in ASCII.
The .mns is the file you can create with a word processor to write your own menus.
So I would do a search on your PC for acad.mns or and run it with the Menu command.
The original uncompiled should be untouched.

Thanks Al, I got similar instructions from 3 different sites (took me three hours to try everything) alas with no luck.

I have a copy of ACAD 2002 on a laptop with a broken screen. I'll plug a monitor into it and see if I can copy the .mnc and .mns files across usging a memory stick.

If that fails, I'll copy the whole ACAD folder across then copy the missing files as error reports come in.

If that fails I'll buy a new copy. I might change to another CAD system, but I'm familiar with ACAD- been using it for 10 years (had it at my old workplace too).

Thanks for your help and time mate, if I can ever return the favour I will!

Whoa' that a bit of a drastic step, if you don't mind me saying for what should have been a minor hic-up.
Unless you just wanted an excuse to get the latest greatest.
By the way, by learning to edit the .mns file you can create some neat menu's.
(don't forget to save the original!).
