There is probabally a few ways to do it, you could set your grid to 8x11 and snap to grid.
Print 1:1 then print VIEW or WINDOW.

What do I need to do so that I can print an object on my printer and then tape the sheets together to make the larger drawing? I'm Using AutoCAD 2008 and normal 8.5x11 paper
Thanks

AutoCAD has no easy way to automate this. You could draw a grid on a layer that doesn't plot, and do basically what Al said. Or use the grid to set up a series of paperspace layouts. If you set that yup as a template, then you could use it over and over. And you can plot multiple paperspace layouts at once. So once set up, printing it would be easy. Al's way would need to be repeated everytime you needed to print.

It works for me just fine if you can't get it to work drop me a email.

Don't forget your margins that don't print. If you have your plot setup that it fits to page, your margins will scale down each page and it won't fit together corectly.
There is a workaround for this problem, you must print a PDF file containing the drawing you want as the full size that it fits, i.e. I want to print a floor plan of a house the size of 4 Arch D so that I have a large print of my drawing but I can't because AutoCAD does not distribute my drawing across 4 pages; now, what I have to do is to print a Large PDF file with the right size archDx4 and then once in Adobe Acrobat I can now print a tile with 4 sheets of ArchD size, Acrobat takes care of the fit and all other details.
Hope it'll work for you as it did for me.
