Default Custom Axe w/ lofting and ger21s process sheet.

He Gerry et'all I'm trying to emulate a new Axe in a 3d render w/ the face taper but am having a 'newb' how-to moment. The drawing has my attempts directlyt over your instruction sheet (ger21 provided). I Cannot seem to get the profile Loft wewdges from the procedures to line on edge over one another for the next step. Maybe you can help? This axe is different as well. But I think the process should work fine on it. Just a learning curve on some of these. I've tried 3D rotate nd I think I'll go find some Docs on the command.

I use 3D Rotate to rotate them 90° so they are vertical.
Then I use ALIGN to align them with a line drawn between the the guide curves.

Look at step 6 in my instructions from an Isometric view to see how I use ALIGN.

    Here you go.

Read my instructions very carefully. You need to use the blue lines you drew to create the edge contours. The edge contours must be the exact length of the blue lines. Yours were not.

I copied your blue lines, and used ALIGN to rotate them to a horizontal position. Then I drew the 1/8" front edge and 1/4" rear edge, and connected them to form the closed shape. Then use 3Drotate to "stand them up", and use ALIGN to get them into position for lofting.

Hello ger21- Yes, Me again. but not for lack of trying. I'm 10hrs into this 2nd axe which I swore I would figure out on my own. that was Friday morning. I have learned more and am much faster- Ayway, for the 2nd drawing you did I do believe I understand what you did on the second axe.... but I simply cannot get the face to become a 3D solid on the outter lines as you did in the 3rd step. (after the wedge alignment ) I did see you left the middle lines as arcs in yellow too . Can you tell me a secret to how you tool the face with wedges into a 3D solid?
I have attached my DWG which reflects my work directly under yours. i've tried to make more regions and convert to solid, extrude to solid, Pedit - Antyhing i could read about. after 5 hours on this I give! Will ask the ObiWan. this second drawing does seem to be a much faster option or you still were following the other steps and I'm guilty of not going down that path. I assumed the second set was a simpler method w/ the Solid Edit options? To remove the part from two other 3d parts.. .

    Step #11 in my instructions.
After lofting, you need to use SurfPatch to create surfaces to cap the ends. You'll want to delete everything but the lofted surface first.
After capping the ends, use UNION to joint the caps with the lofted surface. This creates a closed watertight surface, which is required before you can convert it into a solid.

At this point, just use MOdify >3D Operations > Convert to Solid.

    Simple.

Sorry for the delay, I was up north for the weekend.

GOT IT!!!! Yahooo. Wow- thanks for the last two tips! I got it, and repeated it solo in about 20mins End to End. I think the boy has it. From Loft to Surfpatch to perpendiculars to unions to pushpulls to subtracts and 3Dalign- Whew. But it looks DANDY! Ger21 - you are the best forum resource I've ever encountered. Thanks for much for all your contributions here. You've make me an autocad freak! I cannot seem to put it down. Great fun when you can make real 3d stuff which I can now go manf. I've attached my last drawing w/ the end to end steps.
