In your setup for this piece is the height shown as 6.45mm or is there stock added (default setting for Stock Top Offset adds stock)?
David
Hi
hope someone can explain this to me.
i have a part that is 6mm in height. My stock is 6.45. i use a facing tool path that removes .45 making the stock 6mm in height.
I have a pocket that is only meant to remove 2mm but when i run the simulation its removing 2.45mm
Ive tried selecting the top height from the top of the model in the tool path settings but it still removes 2.45mm.
can anyone help?

Can you send me your model and I'll take a look at it. Should be an easy fix.
thx

PS: You probably know, but just in case.....
Click..... File / Export .... then make sure the Archive Type is set to .f3d..... and make sure the checkbox at the bottom that says "Save to my computer" is checked... then Save. At that point, you should just be able to attach it to a private msg to me (or attach it to a post in this thread if you want everyone to have access).
If you know you will be facing the top, then don't model the actually stock being faced off. Just add that as Stock in setup.
Then do the facing op.
Then when you choose rest machining, it knows that you have faced it already. You also choose Model top rather than Stock top to machine.

Thank you for your responses.
I have found if i run facing last and select one face it works out ok. i did expect it to take into account i had already faced the part before the pocket operation. maybe this is how the software works or i have missed something.
If you have the stock set to 6.45 and put in stocktop for the top height of course it will be going down 2.45 that's what you told it to do start from the stock top, change it to model top for the top hight and it will cut 2 mm deep from the model top.

You can on the second operation after the faceing it's gone and you know it is you are the boss not fusion.
Have a look at the example it's a faceing op and a 3D pocket and A 2D pocket run them together there is no crash, run the 3D pocket by itself there is one crash into what will not be there after the faceing op.

that appears to be what i am trying to achieve. You have faced the stock and then the tool path has started from the correct height after the facing operation.
You have created a body for you stock which is something i didn't do. Any chance you could have at my fusion file and see where i am going wrong?

This is one of the major head scratchers in Fusion until you get it. The other one for me was setting up the offsets in the initial setup of the job. The third thing that was a little tough was that some operation just would not post any tool paths. usually that was because of the lead in settings. Play with those some and you get to understand what all it is wanting from you.
I still get tripped up every now and then.
It really helps to save templates for more complicated parts especially if you have similar parts or even just one or two similar ops. Use what you need and delete the others that get populated.
Many many good videos on Fusion 360.
Check them out at Youtube sometime if you haven't yet.
