You're going to have to provide documentation for the specific spindle and breakout board you're using.
Even then, you'll need to find someone familiar with the specific hardware you'll be using. I think I've only seen one or two of those here.

Compressed air filtering 5um (point 5 in diagram)
Compressed air filtering 0.1um (point 6 in diagram)
Pressure regulator (point 7 in diagram)
Pressure Switch (point 8 in diagram)
5/2 Monostable solenoid valve, including connector coil etc (point 9 in diagram)

Question? how does this get wired into my bob
What are the i/o setting in mach?

I found a video helps illustrate the 5/2 actuator assuming the spindle uses a dual action piston

    I hope this helps others,

Im a little worried about what it said about the piston, "The cyclinder is double-acting: It must be kept under pressure to maintain the piston in the upper position, far from the rotating parts."

If I understood that correctly, then what happens if your compressor dies or suddenly loses air pressure in another way?

If I were you, I would implement some type of warning/shut down system for it. SOmething like a electric pressure monitoring relay/valve. If the pressure drops to one reading, it will sound an audible alarm or visual indication, if the pressure continues to drop, it will initiate a shutdown sequence for the spindle/machine. Saving your spindle in the even of a full pressure loss, allowing that piston to fall into the moving parts.

It should be pretty easy to do. There are pressure valves/relays on the market that can be purchased.

Commercial machines have a pressure switch in the E-Stop circuit, so the machine shuts down if air pressure is too low.
