Anybody around Brisbane/Sunshine Coast/Wide Bay area

Hi Guys,

I have only recently stumbled across this forum & have been looking around.

Is there anyone out there around Brisbane/Sunshine Coast/Wide Bay areas that has either built or is building a machine?
I would be interested in getting together to have a look & a chat.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi Hasher,
Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to wait to see if any others come out of the woodwork (no pun intended)

Hi fellas,
I'm in Brisbane and at the moment I am retrofitting a my second chinese bench mill with cnc. My first mill is working but is an embarresment....I used the original leadscrews and made a acme(trapazoidal) antibacklash nut. My latest project involves retrofitting ball screws i picked up on ebay to a second mill. I have just completed the ball screw fitting and am fairly happy with the results...now working on the stepper motor mounting brackets... would love to hear the details of your projects.. my email address is gbusato@optusnet.com.au

Brisbane CNC

Hi kenbeth,

I would love to see some pictures of your project if you ever get around to taking any... I am collecting parts like yourself to build a mill from scratch... My approach has been to buy whatever i can get on ebay cheap and then build a mill around whatever I have.....It is going to be a bit of a frakenstien but hopefully it will still work well..
regards

Workboat

Hi Guys,

I am from Brissy too, and like Steve i'm new to this forum as well.

I'm not building anything yet, but hope to put together a 2 axis table with an oxy/acet cutter.

I'm also interested in the work you guys are doing retrofitting mills. Maybe one day...

Cheers,

Damo.

Hi, im from brizzy too! did my time (Fitter / machinist) in brizzy and currently working in brisbanes west as a machinist. I'm planning a cnc mill and lathe (mill first) to be made completely from scratch. it will be used to machine steel and cast iron (and the odd alum. part) any one here know where i can get some steppers and a controller for a 4 - Axis Mill

Lightbulb HalfNut

Hi Stevembh,
I am from Brisbane. Ihave been working on design and source of components
for an Aluminium capable router/mill to do Photo engraving.
I hope to start construction in about 4 weeks.
Lead screws seem to be the most difficult area to get cost down.
I am currently playing with 6mm Acme lead screw material and I am contemplating making up adjustable zero backlash nuts.
I got 6 meters of lead screw and 6 nuts for $130.
The form appears to be OK and would assume it is a rolled thread.
I would be interested to know if anyone has an inexpensive source of ball screws

Bris bayside

Got 7x14 and cnced micromill, on the yahoo forums for these 2.
Spend my time here researching software, seeing what everyone is using.
Want to do a 4x8' router, a cnc engraver and cnc grinder.
Got most of the motors, still looking for acme threaded rod. Use plastic a lot and I am impressed with delrin and UHMWPE so may use it for nuts.
Not convinced ball screws will last for plasma cutter and wood/plastic router.
If the plastic nuts wears out I can replace it for really low cost.

Gavin
