Hello CNC Zone. This is my first post here. Generally interested on NC controllers and machines, as most people here are of course! Currently Building 3 axis mill based on older Chinese machine. Have fitted ballscews and bearings. Now working on servo controller using PWM and mosfet power design. Writing CAD interface in Delphi. Also developing standard PC, say 486 upwards, as embedded controller for axis controls with no MS Windows OS involved. (Essentially boot from DOS 6.22 into protected mode, leaving DOS behind.) Already built plotters, based on steppers (8051) and also small plasma cutter using servos with DSP56002 slotted into ISA bus of PC, running under DOS. Interested in contacts regarding parts supply for mechanical and electronic bits. Would like to build small desktop mill with 4+ axes to demonstrate + test various functionality. Happy to discuss projects, designs and ideas. Steve |

| Hi Steve..Welcome..My name is Woody and I am in the USA. I collect all sorts of machine parts and electronics for other members of the CNCZone and ship them to AU and NZ at a good savings. With the US dollar taking a dive...good deals can be found here. Let me know if you need my service and we can discuss things. I've been doing this for a few years now... some sellers here will not ship internationally. I can receive and ship to you at a better rate. Hope we can work together. Cheers Woody

Thanks for taking the time to say hello. Of course I would like to deal with you! ![]() Supply of parts is an on going pain. I would like to grab some NEMA23 and larger steppers, with rare earth magnets. These are getting serious in the torque department these days. With our exchange rate as it is, now would be a good time to buy some stuff. I'm also interested in ball screws of various denominations and I too have a close buddy who is a CNC geek like me, but more on the mechanical side of things. I make my own encoders from Hewlett Packard components, so there would be another line of interest. Also we are interested in angular contact bearings of various shapes and sizes. Naturally I drool openly when reading some of the advertisements, so your contact is welcome.... ![]() Thanks again for saying hi. Steve |

Hi Steve and welcome I am also quite new to this forum. At least as far as my progress goes. I am accumulating parts to build my first cnc router. I intend to build my own controllers and am currently waiting on components fro the states. I have a nephew there who I am hoping will buy them and send them out for me. I am located in Mulgrave and have been to a few of the BBQ's which have been very interesting and helpful. Regards domar |

Thanks for your reply. I'm in Brunswick and my buddy is in Knox, not far from the shopping center. We have been playing with this stuff for too many years. Progress has been slow because we have to earn a living in between. We have built a few things over the years and I have made it my desire to finish _something_ this year! My latest craze has been to co-opt the standard PC architecture and use it for real time control. This necessitates either 16 bit DOS applications, or a jump into protected mode. Either way the processing power available thrashes the old '8051 expectations' for many advanced applications and looks at first (and second) blush, to be tantalising in the extreme!! Otherwise I want to finish my mill after 5 years of 'phaffing around' doing useless things like put the kids thru school for the past 10 years Now for some serious attention to the projects....at last... ![]() Regards, Steve |

| Hi, Steve, I have gathered quite a few Stepper Motors, PCBs, Encoders, various designs and sizes of bearings/rails, ballscrews, energy track, and not to mention Power Supplies, Controllers and loads of misc. components here, and then on to AU and NZ...too many to count. If you have a Brand, Part Number, Model, Voltage, so on and so fourth...get me a list...or I will try to locate a supplier of whatever you are looking for, whenever...and I will check the sources we use here and see if I can get you some bargains... The best deals are those that I can utilize the USPS Postal Service's 20 Lb. Flat Rate Boxes. They have 4 sizes, the smallest a 4 pounder about the size of a VCR tape..goes for $12.95,USD..the 2 Mediums go for 41.95 and the large goes for 53.95. I charge 15 USD per box to gather, repack and mail to you. I can do some degree of dis-assembly to get the item to fit into the box...and also can order your items for you, if the seller will not sell to, or ship to International locations. Any way...enough Bla, Bla, Bla...I'm here when you need me. Have a great weekend, Best regards, Woody

| Hi again Steve, I have a good source of Steppers for you, just click the link to Kelinging. They have quite a few products "down under" now. I'll check my records for more sources and get any good leads to you. I don't have a catalog from them but you can contact them to see if they have what you need and prices. http://www.kelinginc.net/SMotorstock.html Cheers, Woody

| I spoke to my mate Steve McDonald (my partner in CNC crime) about what you have offered. We are both very excited (scratch the surface and we are actually 5 year old kids with big toys to play with! ) about this. We both decided we would try with something really simple to kick off. HP encoder wheels and heads. I make my own encoders from HP components and have had much success with these. We save thousands by making our own housings (on the Mazak CNC of course!) and getting the shafts ground by outside people.. etc. I will get back to you with the part #'s for wheels (glass and metal) and the encoder heads too. There is a new 3 phase servo model also that interests me, as it incorporates the phasing segments for the drive elect's and the position lines, all in the one head. (too cool) ********************************************* Mostly we will be interested in the following kinds of bits: ********************************************* Encoder parts: (Hewlett Packard) If you can wait until I see Steve this week, we will get a list together. Basically these should be simple to ship, so we can start with these I reckon.. ******** Linear encoders: Some projects work better with encoders directly mounted on the stages. I will find what we want as we go down the track. ******** BallScrews: Later I want to get rolled and ground shafting in various sizes; I will scan the catalogues for these specs, but they will come later. We can be flexible too about styles and exact sorts for experimentation or 'one off' purposes, so will be receptive to suggestions if you have any 'in stock' or inexpensive options to suggest. ******** Couplings: Various bits from catalogues. Will let you know about these. ******** Angular contact bearings: If you have a suppply of these in a few cost and tolerance grades, would be good to know. I bought some cheapies (100 off) that were ex Russia from a US supplier and they were good for many simple mild tolerance applications. At about $1.00 each, I figured there was not much to lose...but I want some better grades too for milling machine, small lathe etc and also we are building a higher speed machining head for 4 or 5 axis machining experiments. The trend seems to be for lighter machining loads with very high rotary speeds and not so stiff machines, so we are having a play with this. If you have bearing suggestions, we will listen. ******** Servo motors(Brushless + Brushed): Will scan the catalogues for exact part #'s ******** Stepper Motors: Will scan the catalogues for exact part #'s ******** Drive belt and chain: Usually 1/5th inch belts and wheels of various denominations. Will find what I want and let you know. ******** Electronic bits: Mainly we get stuff from Farnell these days. Sometimes they just don't stock what I want. Also many elect suppliers won't send samples outside U.S. If you can help with some of these issues we (I) would be really pleased. ************************************* Not every project needs the most critical tolerance bits and also I want to have some 'play' items too. So, if you have some stuff you want to 'get rid of', reasonably priced, let me know also.. I want you to know that we are not interested in 'nailing you' for the last possible dollar. It is the convenience and overall saving that interests us, plus having somebody with suggestions for alternatives that gives us both the inner glow. Thanks for this possibility Woody. Have a good weekend yourself! Much obliged to you. It should be fun....(That's why we are really here isn't it? )Kind Regards, Steve |

You can email me direct at elwooddbeauchamp@gmail.com and we can keep in touch as I keep my email on top most all of the time. I will give you a list of sources that my other clients use for all the items you listed. I tried that here, but timed out and lost it all...lol Well, back to work...lots of suppliers to gather.. Thanks again and email me and I'll get you the list of suppliers. Cheers, Woody
