Hi all, In my first post I mentioned that I was thinking about importing a small inexpensive cnc out of china, because although I'm able, I felt I just didn't have the time. I've gone right off this china machine idea, because after talking to a few mates, I reckon I don't want to have to pull the thing apart and rebuild it from the ground up before I can actually use it. I found this website called "Crocky's website" where he shows photos and gives a few details on his cnc home build. This guy and his cnczone mate rock, and the materials they're sourcing locally look to be a good way to go also. I'm going over to Linear Bearings in Rocklea, Brisbane today and have a look at their products. If I'm lucky, I can start my build next week.

Hi bernster, welcome to the Zone ! Sorry but I missed your first post to welcome you ... Bob is a great help and quite inspirational, most of us struggle making a CNC router with all limbs working, he is doing it with only one side working. Have a look around to see what you can find locally, there are also a couple of metal recycling type places in Brissie that sometimes have old machinery that contain all sorts of goodies, steppers, linear rails, servo's etc, they turn over most of it for scrap but if you are there at the right time... There are a few CNC BBQ's starting up there as well, one just recently and they are talking about making it a regular thing. They are a great way to get some ideas and meet a few like minded (sick ? ) people. Good luck ! Cheers. Russell.

Hi Russell, Thanks for the welcome and hi to everyone else out there in the Zone. Well, I went to visit Linear Bearings in Rocklea Brisbane yesterday. As soon as I walked into their showroom, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. There product range is extensive, as in, if you want it they've got it. The quality is outstanding. I Had a chat with their man Martin and although he didn't personally have dealings with Crocky and his build, because Crocky's down in the deep south, he knows all about it. Crocky is a star. Martin is pretty enthusiastic about these builds and he reckons that they can put together a kit to my XYZ requirements that when assembled would practically be turnkey. They should be able to supply everything. Kind of like cnc ikea. I should feel a little guilty about this but I really need a cnc table up and running quick. cause I'm gettin' old. I have a few projects I have to start soon. I'm a cnc guy from way back and over the years, have come up with a few ideas for true home builds that look good on the screen, I just don't get enough "machine for myself" time. My boss is happy for me to make my own kit, but has this really annoying habit of dropping job sheets on my keyboard. So hopefully my little ideas work out and of course if they do, Ill be sharing with ye all. Long live the Zone.
