4th Brisbane CNC User Group Meeting - 5 Sep 2009

Hi All,

Sorry about the short notice but we were trying to get voluteers for a venue but didn't get any. So Darryl has just tentatively organised a venue subject to interest.

Details for the next bi-monthly Brisbane CNC User Group meeting is as follows;

Date: Saturday 5th September 2009
Time: Setup from 10am, Start at 10:30am till ~4pm
Where: Bracken Ridge Hall, Cnr of Bracken and Barrett Streets, Bracken Ridge, Queensland 4017
What to Bring: A machine, parts, work pieces or something else of interest. Pre-cooked food, drinks. There are shops nearby as well.

In order to secure the venue, we need somes number very quickly (by this Friday and also require a donation of around $5 to $10 (depending on numbers) to help pay for the $140 venue fee.

RSVP by posting a reply to this post and let me know if you are bringing a machine so I can allocate space and power for it.

All are welcome.

I hope to checkout the venue over the next day or two, so will post an update with any further details.

Look forward to seeing you all again and meeting some new faces.

Cheers,

Claudio

Hi Claudio.
Count me in with $20 to the venue and refreshments.
Whilst it is not CNC I was hoping for a venue that I could set up a Casting demonstration. However there will be other times.

Please note all that the donation is for venue fee only for this one. Food will need to be provided by yourself on the day.

I'm heading off o/s for 2 weeks the day after so I'll be flat out with running my business before then so won't be able to put anything together food wise.

Cheers,

Claudio

Hey Bill,

We'll check out this venue and if it's OK then we'll book it in advance so we have something confirmed. Then if we need and have a 'special' venue for a specific meet, then we will just cancel the booking for that month.

Look forward to catching up.

Cheers,

Claudio

Hi All,

I will be there. Just need power for my laptop.

My lathe has progressed to the point where I have realized that I know little about G Code programming for lathes. I have also realized that Mach3 appears to have more problems on the turning side of things compared to milling.

I can give demos on 3D Modelling, converting to dxf, then G Code for milling if anyone is interested.

I would like to talk to anyone who has experience in creating G Code for turning as I am close to stumped.

I can volunteer my place in Algester for the next (November) get together if there is no arrangements yet.

Regards

Chris Humphris

Materials Suppliers in Brisbane

Hi All,

At the last meeting I was asked for a list of materials suppliers that I use in Brisbane.

Below are some:

I use the following:

Aluminium - Action Aluminium Unit 4, 32 Sway St
Coopers Plains QLD 4108
PH (07) 3274 2722

These guys are great and will sell small qtys except for sheet which comes in 1200 x 2400mm sheets.

If anyone wants sheets cut, I have a guillotine capable of cutting 1200mm wide sheets.

Steel - Metalcorp 2145 Ipswich Rd
Oxley QLD 4075
PH (07) 3716 3177

I have a cutoff saw capable of cutting metal up to 200mm wide. Once again I am happy to cut up metal for members of the forum.

Brass and Copper - George Weston
75 Alexandra Pl
Murarrie QLD 4172
PH (07) 3348 9999

Exotic Steels such as 12L14 free machining in hex.

Interlloy Pty Ltd
2-8 Titanium Crt
Marsden
(07) 3489 5333

www.interlloy.com.au

Acetal and Other Plastics - Dotmar
U3/ 29 Lysaght St
Acacia Ridge QLD 4110
PH (07) 3423 8997

and

Cut- To-Size Plastics Pty Ltd
U3/ 254-258 Evans Rd
Salisbury QLD 4107

(07) 3274 3833

qld@cuttosize.com.au

Radio Spares at Archerfield also sell "Engineering Materials" albeit at high prices.

Tool Steels and other hard to find materials are sold by Hobby Mechanics and Minitech. You can find details on their websites.

2nding the compliment for Cut To Size - I needed some clear acrylic for a trophy and they provided the parts quickly, exactly to spec, and at a significantly lower price than the previous company I was using.
