Crane is on a distinguished road
New to Machining

Hi,
I'm new to machining, to say the least. My family and I are building a new home on the NSW south coast and by a complete fluke we have slid under the local council radar and have been allowed a 12m x 10m shed! Consequently I have decided that the pride of place is going to go to a vertical head turret mill. It wont be CNC I guess as my knowledge is still very much in the remedial section (which might be a good suggestion for this fine site ) Its prime use will be to let me to make custom parts for my project car.

So, I guess my first contribution to this forum is a question. What is your opinion regarding the purchase of a mill? Would you go for a good condition second hand model, maybe a Bridgeport or Pacific (the machine shop at work has an FTV 2S) or one of the very well priced brand new chinese models such as the HM-50 https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Tu...Fc0tpAodeH90SQ
Cheers

ducky downunder is on a distinguished road

hi if you are unaware what to look for as far as condition of used mills its probablly best to consider a new one,see if you find a good second hand machine with little ware you cannot go wrong but if you have a experianced freind that can asses it great.sometimes you get a lot of accesories with a private sale
